@Eldonko what are your CPU temps? Thats a nice voltage for that speed.

W00t! Finally got my board up and running. First cooler didn't fit, CBA bodge watercooling it so I went to PC world, found a cheap cooler and strapped a Kaze 3000 to it (27c idle, 37c peak so far under load)

...then it wouldn't boot and turned out it wasn't booting unless it was in the 2nd BIOS and the GPU in PCI-E 2. Probs needs a BIOS update & I suspect someone played with it before I bought it going by the state the packaging was inside!

Currently 4250Mhz on the cooler, Pi @ 8.29s at it's best. Will play with it more tomorrow.

bad board or just overlooking something

    Hey all,
I just got all of my system together, and I can't get it past the initial "setup bios" page. And when I go through and try to set everything to stock settings just so I can load windows, the system goes through this weird reboot, debug sets on 01, and when I do a hard reset, it says the overclocking failed. I don't want to overclock, but it seems this board does it automatically. Also, I noticed that the v_reg led is on. The manual states that is where the issue lies, but no matter what I do, I can't get it to go off.

Question 1: Is there a way to disable the overclocking and boot with stock settings?

Question 2: is there an "idiots guide" to the Asus ROG bios? I have been using eVGA 790i for a few years so I am unsure of what all of the settings are. I know that this will come with time, but I just want to get the thing up and running.

    specs:
    Corsair Obsidian 800D
    Corsair hx1050 psu
    Corsair Vengeance 16 Quad Channel CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 x2 (32GB total)
Corsair Force Series GT 120 GB SSD (CSSD-F120GBGT-BK)
    Corsair H100 Cooler

    Corsair H100 Cooler
    Intel 3960X
    eVGA GTX580

    OC settings coming soon.

Thanks! I did read it but I was kind of looking for a "put this here, and that there" type of thing just so I can get it running on stock settings without overclocking.

I am re-reading and trying to figure out the settings...

That 01 code your getting usually means instability with memory. Do all your sticks pass stability testing at stock?? Try setting DRAM voltage to 1.65 manually for starters.

I didn't take into consideration that since I am using 8 dimms instead of 4, that I should up the voltage on the memory. I'll see if that is the issue. Then, I will update the bios to the newest. I am sure that's what the issue is for now.

    **Edited to add**

Found some more detailed and specific guides that I overlooked. Thanks for all the help and pointers.

If I was you I would also try 4 sticks of RAM in the red slots at least till you have the OS installed. With 8 Dimms you may need sligthly higher VCCSA and/ or VTT.

I also had all 8 RAM slots filled and the board was unstable, even though the memory was NOT faulty. So try running with just 4 or 2 sticks installed.
For me sometimes it wouldn't post and gave some error code but i just thought it was because i had the board overclocked, then i discovered it also did this on default settings. I also had trouble installing or booting Windows on a RAID array and now i think it was the memory. If more than 4 RAM slots are filled then the system becomes unstable.

In the end i got my board running ok with all 8 dimms (32GB) by doing the OPPOSITE of what you normally would do... i tightened the memory timings to 9-11-10-28 and set the memory voltage LOWER to 1.6v. Default auto settings were 11-11-11-28 and 1.67v yet these didn't work. The latest BIOS (0901) dont fix this problem either.

The settings for memory timings and voltage are under the first tab in the BIOS. But try it with less RAM installed first and if it's ok then you might have this same problem...

Shimano do you think Rampage tweak mode 1 could help the issue with cold boots at high RAM and CPU speeds???

Bex just saw your screenshot above. The warning message your getting in the bottom right means you have not plugged the PSU 6 pin or 8 Pin correctly into your graphics cards. Hence maybe why you thought it would not boot in slot one. With my tri Sli set up I got the same message when card two's 6 pin was not in correctly.

describe your settings and symtoms. Sometimes leaving most stuff at auto may work best also. maybe a voltage to voltage relation, VCCSA/VCore/VTT/PLL

5ghz reached on the air cooler - but I can't validate the CPU-Z dump? Always get "dump corrupted"

    [EDIT] 5100Mhz reached on air...

Don't think I can squeeze much more out of her on air. But I don't think this is too bad considering I've never OC'd with Sandybridge! Still have the validation issues though

owikh84: I had the same thing happen but only with hypers. Tried remounting the CPU also but didnt help. Took 3 sticks out and boot with 1 stick, then 2, 3, and 4, each time checked to see if the bios screen showed all memory installed . After that no more issues. Weird but it seemed to work.

Ok i will try your method later tonight. Weird the spd info in bios settings and CPU-Z show all the sticks in quad channel but boot screen & task manager show 12gb only. Thanks OC Nub
