    2600k bizzaro world

The rig in my sig. 2600k right now its at 4.6ghz
    Asus Maximus IV Gene-z
MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr III (not overclocked right now)
    8GB 2x4GB Mushkin Ridgeback (9-9-9-4-24)
not that long ago added the Kingston v300 240GB SSD
    Plextor PX-755SA,
    Seasonic 750 X

Been running this same set-up for quite a long time but the last few weeks it has become randomly unstable.
Everything from blue screens to complete computer shut off with no lock up or indication of it about to happen.

The computer actually gets more unstable if I try to lower the clock or set everything to default (what?)

I ran memtest and the memory seemed fine. My only thought is that perhaps the PSU is starting to go ? or maybe the motherboad/gpu ? its really hard to tell!

any insight would be lovely, cheers.

try adding voltage to various things, and leave clocks alone. might take you a while to test. do you know the voltages of your 12 5 and 3.3v lines?

Yeah its strange, my 3.3v is right now sitting at 3.36 doesn't seem to be fluctuating much 3.334-3.376 I will have to check the rest I just took a quick look via software.

The annoying part is it will run stable for hours then crash, its very sporadic.

Have you tried clearing CMOS and reconfiguring everything again from scratch?

My 775 rig back in the day started acting funny like that (random freezes) after a few years and I was at a loss, about to accept the fact that it'd had its good run and it was time to upgrade. The only thing I hadn't tried was clearing cmos. After doing that it ran fine for another year and a half and now is at a friend's, as good as it's ever been.

when it black screens I actually am losing power it seems fans quit lights go off. its as if someone hit a switch. But the strange part is you would think if it was the psu and doing that it would get worse but as I type this it hasn't done anything since mid day yesterday.

Start by setting absolute stock settings after a thourough CMOS clear. Down clocking a few hundred Mhz is not enuough to eliminate instability from settings you made. If you get bluescreens and shut-offs on stock clocks you can be damn sure somethings broken. If that is the case, simply start eliminating components. It's not rocket science.

Get a multimeter, you can't rely on software.
