And now for my two cents.
CPU current capability should be fine at 150% unless looking for that extreme oc or clocking at sub-ambient temps.
It is to my understanding that setting a higher current capability does not actually provide more current until it is needed. Setting a value higher than what you may need shouldn't negatively impact anything except VRM temps.

I leave my VCCSA current capability at 140% all the time, but that's because I'm constantly playing with the RAM, lol.

100% is normal operation. Setting higher than 100% means the VRMs can provide more current(if needed) before throttling or shutting down(due to power draw) at the cost of temperature.
it is not "protecting" the VRMs by setting it to a lower value(as they are designed to handle these high currents, just make sure to keep them cooled), it is limiting the amount of current the CPU/VCCSA can draw and therefore limiting your overclock. Setting a higher value simply allows more current to be supplied to the CPU/VCCSA under power-hungry situations such as high overclocks.
I've tried to explain it the best I can, if you're still having trouble understanding current capability, you should ask Raja or LardArse, lol

At 180% (for example) the VRMs "throttling or shutting down (due to power draw) at the cost of temperature" later if it is 140%, at 180% VRMs let pass more current (180%, the amount is less restricted than 120, 130, etc...)
If it is stable with 120 or 140%, no need to set more?

If it's stable, only set it higher if you plan to keep overclocking further.

the only "burned" R4Es I've seen have been the 8-pin CPU power connector(EPS +12v). It's caused because those people are pulling too much current through those connections. That's why Asus included an additional 4-pin CPU +12v connector, so the current would be split among the additional wires as well and something like that wouldn't happen. They(Asus) also included the additional 6-pin PCIe power connector and 4-pin floppy connector next to the OC Key connector, so you can provide additional power to the expansion slots and RAM, respectively, without pulling that power from the 24-pin connector and possibly burning that up.
As long as you have active cooling on the VRMs(a fan over the stock heatsink or, in your case, a waterblock) they should be fine.

On the ROG forums, Raja said you don't need to connect both until you hit 5GHz and/or are using sub-zero cooling.
He also said that there is no harm in having both connected, even if you don't need it. I've been using both since I first assembled the system, just to be safe.
Burnt 8-pin would be faulty PSU, faulty board, or pulling too much power to be using the 8-pin alone(without the 4-pin).
Burnt PCIe slot could be numerous things, ranging from user error to faulty hardware to not plugging in the additional PCIe power connector on the RIVE. Pretty hard to tell without actually having the board in-hand.

Looking for some suggestions(new Bios), got the rive with a 3930K was running fine under water at 5020 with a strap of 125.00 then bumped up the BLK four times to like a 125.500 mem set at 2008 everything was running fine temps are good. Just did a Heaven run this am, after wards during reboot it said updating Irog something it went through but after that all my over clock settings are gone? BIos was updated to the 1305 at the time, I tried switching the bios switch still seems flakey. I can reset my clock settings but it has only booted in windows 7 at stock settings except the raid O it wont lose. Even the CPU voltage defaults to stock, in between though it will stick at a code 44 now and then. Other settings are Stock (during over clock)except the Vccsa is 1.1v VVT CPU is 1.125v, CPU at 1.475 till in windows then bump it to 1.49 for running 3Dmark11, again temps always good, other setting all cores on, all other cpu settings off.
Need more let me know............ I was having a blast reading this whole thread and using it then boom.

Not sure what went down but this AM everything seems to be fine? Only issue is with all my over clock settings missing in the bios, I may have shut off one to many things in the task manager before a run, but that shouldn't cause bios issue's, here's a score. 1305 bios 100 strapping

Hi guys!! i need some help please ....
i'm trying to do some benchmarks on w7 x64 and xp 32 bit, but i have a weird problem , this is what
atm i've got an hard drive dedicated to only benchmarks so is good to be messed up and what ever ,
if i try to boot @ 5.2ghz ht on there are no problem, but if i disable ht .... sometimes windows xp & 7 would not even boot, the times it boot the cpu is stuck @ 3.2
and the bios settings are

if i try to boot on the gaming drive it works, what's going on then? what's am i doing wrong?

You need to give more info like the voltage settings are you turning on the board settings? How are you cooling the CPU, if your doing 5200Mhz you must be using water. Try reading this whole thread, as there is a ton of help in here. Try flipping the LN2 switch (ON) near reset switch, see if that helps you.
