    After Delidding

Ive just delidded my Haswell, I did nick the PCB in a couple of places but the CPU seems to still work to a point, I am having a problem where im getting code 15 on my motherboard if I try and run my memory in dual channel now, im having to run both of my sticks in single channel mode, ive tried all the slots and the 2 slots closest to the CPU give me code 15, but the 2 slots furthest from the CPU work ok, could this be due to the nicks ? have I damaged the memory controller do you think ?

The slots on my board just so you know are the one furthest from the CPU is Slot 1 (Channel A1), then slot 3 Channel B1), then slot 2 (Channel A2) and slot 4 (Channel B2)is the closest, its basically what ive labelled as A2 and B2 that's not working.

Few things that could have happened. You may not be getting proper contact in the socket or you may have done damage to the memory controller.

By far the most common damage from delidding is IMC problems. Remount the CPU and ensure the socket is clear and all the pins look good. Make sure you don't have too much mounting pressure or uneven pressure on the die from the IHS after reattachment.

haswell cpu's have traces only on one half of the pcb. That being said watch out where do you have those scratces and see if they are on some trace or not.i did that on a ivy 3570K,cpu only ran single-channel,dual 55 anytime...

Since day one I have always had error code 15 on my board and always struggled to get it working, eventually its always finally worked after fighting with bios re-set's etc, after delid, it just totally refuses to work in dual channel, I always thought it was the board, but maybe I had a faulty CPU from day one. I will post a picture shortly of the delid, where you can see the marks.

Here's a picture of my delid, the white stuff you can see is silicone sealant, its water proof and good upto 160oC, its there to protect the VRM's from the CLU which I put on the die, I marked in red where the nick's are.

I think that nick on the left is the culprit as that seem's to be where most of the pcb traces are.

Yeah I broke my memory controller when I delided my 3770k and could only run single channel memory. Don't use a razor blade... use the Vice, Block-of-Wood, and Hammer method. If the razor blade hits that copper it Frays the edge just enough to scratch the silicone.

Although it looks like the CPU at the moment, I am also leaning towards the board and going to RMA the board too, the reason I say this is the 2 memory slots closest to the CPU socket are not working at all, not even in single channel mode, these are slots 2 and 4, the only 2 slots which are working are the 2 furthest from the CPU socket which is 1 and 3, the board is set out kinda weird, basically counting from the furthest slot which is slot 1, then slot 3, then slot 2, and finally slot 4 closest to the CPU socket.

Any RAM sticks in slot 2 or 4, even in single channel gives me error code 15, I have a Gigabyte Sniper Z87 and when looking up this error code online, its all Gigabyte boards.

Im running 4 x 2gb Sticks of G.Skill Ripjaws F3-17000 CL9, (2133mhz), well at the moment, 2 sticks in single channel.

I understand your concern, but I suggest you simply replace the CPU before RMA of the mobo....shipping cost $$.
