This is Gigabytes flagship x79. I doubt very seriously it is discontinued. As mdzcpa said, "Keep in mind Gigabyte's press release that said they were going to pull stock off the shelves and replace with new stock that had the latest BIOS (to prevent the less experienced users from burning up thier boards)".

So I've got my VCore set at 1.35V in BIOS, however in Windows CPU-Z reads around 1.294V under load. What gives? CPU-Z or BIOS not accurate?

That sounds about right if you are not using LLC. Test it with a DMM and see what the real vcore is.

Anyone having trouble with radeon 7970??

I cant see any video signal in uefi posts. Using my physx card in slot1, I am able to install amd and nvidia drivers. Once installed, the 7970 works ok...

I am using f8g as main and f7 as backup and the same result. Tried changing slots, leaving the card alone, changing power connectors with no luck.

to answer your question, it is POSSIBLE that production has been ended. the reason: soon intel will release new socket 2011 chips and patsburg chipset(s).

allegedly the xeons were delayed in part because they were broken and needed a respin, but also because patsburg was broken too. so it is possible that the current x79 boards will be replaced with new ones using the newer patsburg. we'll know in a month or two I think.

    Yo guys,
the x79-UD-7 will be my next board.
There is still one thing that makes me a little nervous; Did anybody measure the temperature of the mosfets during oc?
Is a water cooling solution in sight?

dude don't worry about the temperature of the VRM, just place some airflow over it if you are going to OC over 4.2ghz that is what i am recommending now.

On a side note, I actually talked to GB about the issue and others pertaining to the X79 boards when i was at CES like a day or two ago, i voiced some suggestions and questions to their top management, they actually wanted to hear my suggestions. I sat down and talked to some of their VPs. They were eager to hear what i had to say and they really impressed me by listening and trying to understand what they can do better. What other company will have their top management sit down with a power user like me and hear what i have to say? F7 is a good and safe BIOS and yes they took the boards to flash them all with F7 to ensure nothing happens like it did on the UD3. I saw the UD7 is currently out of stock before i left, it is either in for BIOS flash or because they ran out, as the board wasn't made in large quantities. GB has some really good stuff planned for 2012, I am excited for some excellent overclocking products, and no i don't know when or what, I just know that there is a strong push internally.

When i saw their Z77 boards i couldn't help but think that they started to listen to overclockers, did anyone notice that all the ATX boards had Voltage read points, buttons for power, reset, and clear CMOS, and Port80H. Even the UD3 and G1 Sniper 3 and UD5 had these. IMO that is great! i looked over some of the chips (like on the G1 Sniper 3 they have 4 8x slots, and they have a PCI-E bridge chip, but it isn't NF200 and it isn't Lucid, but it is PCI-E 3.0 capable), the VRM on the Z77 boards is a bit different than on the X79, they use the same digital PWM, but they used different inductors (the ones used were made by the same manufacturer that made the OC board's inductors) but i was told that these are ES boards and that the final should be slightly different. I know they are trying their best to make sure Z77 tops Z68 by more than what we expect. They already have hicookie OCing, and IVY has some excellent OC potential as so i have heard.

    Sounds like good news.
Did you hear anything about the rumors Intel is going to build 22nm chips for the 2011 socket?

You are referring to Ivy-E? That isn't a rumor it is a plan as far as i know. LGA1155 will go through SB and IB and LGA2011 will go through SBe and IBe

    Yes, that's what I meant.
The Ivy-E will be for sale in autumn this year. So the 3930K is the right cpu for my system now

hi guys, i have been following extreme systems forum for a long time and think it is a great forum with a wealth of knowledge, have never posted in the past as i feel a bit of a noob!
unfortunately though i like to let you guys know that my x79-ud7 board burnt out it seems smoke came from the similar place as that you tube video of the (Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 burns)
bios settings were set at optimised settings, i have sent gigabye technical support a email and asking that i will be requesting for my money back! i was getting the 6a error from the word go
and could only post with ratio change in OS disabled, and bios version f7!

Do you remember the BIOS version you had on your system when your mosfets burned out?
It happend to the UD-7 of a friend of mine a few weeks ago but he had an old BIOS version running.

hi fritz, yeah i had the f7 flashed as suggested by gigabyte, i really don't think its the bios just a bad batch as i don't think everyone was getting the 6A error, which i think is the whole problem?

Is there any reason why they made the F8 bios do the same thing as F7, mainly automatically updating my backup bios without any prompt from me to F8 as well? All that did was blow away my 3 overclocking profiles. Can't even stop the dam thing, it starts writing immediately. Not impressed with that one little bit.

    @grafic harbour,
It's bit difficult to explain in in English; the cause for the burning mosfets wasn't the BIOS version by itself. The phase control and firmware of the mosfets failed to manage the overclocking protection. The BIOS F7 was supposed to update the BIOS and the firmware of the mosfet controllers as well.

I think Gigabyte won't argue to pay back your money. It was definitely their fault.
You have deserved an extra gift for the trouble you went through

it is probably very small change. As it is F9A probably F8 with some compatibility enhancements or updated microcode.
