ASUS Official X79 Motherboards Support Thread

Need some help from gurus of overclocking.

System specs:
i7 3930k @ 4.7ghz
3x7970
Sabertooth x79
40gb SSD + 2x1tb hdds
2x4gb ddr3 1600 ram ( new ram will come next week).
Corsair A1200W

Bios 2103 if I'm correct ( the latest official one, on asus page)

Settings:
BLCK 100mhz, strap 100
multi 47
Vcore auto + offest +0.005
Offest set on Ultra High and 120%
Vcore during load 1.385-1.4
VCCSA offest +0.025
VCCSA according to bios 0.905
VTT 1.056 ( auto)
VCCA calibration set on High and 110%

Tested 3 times OCCT 3h each on large data set + 5h of Prime blend with all available ram with 0 issues

But I get random freezing during Games ( Sleeping Dogs, Skyrim, GW2), after which I have to turn off and turn back on PC and it claims that the OC failed.
Currently trying vtt of 1.1 and vcca of 1.05

Set VCCSA to fixed not offset. Set between 1.15 and 1.25.
It is really important you get some X79 Quad Channel memory off the QVL.

Tested a bunch of settings for the whole day today.
All but latest ( 3x wood knuck for luck) failed with 09C codes, one with 124

The latest had 3.5h of OCCT done, had to turn it off, cause I want some sleep.

Going to play games tmrw, and if that works -> run prime for 8h.

P.S. tested the PSU -> same problems with 2 cards as in with 3 cards.
Tested higher VCCSA and VTT -> didnt budge.

I think it's the Vcore playing trick on me in games now.

As for QVL it's 2011 edition, there's no new additions past that, and not a single 32gb memory kit ddr3 1600 tested in that QVL.

So I've changed settings and recevied the same looping sound within 40 minutes of Skyrim.
Then I've pushed the stock options -> 5 minutes of gameplay and whoosh looping sound.
Then I've put some more vcore on stock settings -> and got 15 minutes.
Then I've moved back to my 4.7 settings, and went to 4.5 ghz speeds, leaving the vcore as it was for 4.7 -> got 1.5h of gameplay, till I quited myself.
Today I've put 46x multi, pushed the offset to -0.005 so thus the vcore is 1.344 under load according to Asus UI
Passed 3+h of OCCT
and then 2+h of Skyrim without any freezings.
So far promissing, it seems that I needed more vcore for the system for games ( more then for OCCT and Prime ? strange huh).

Question here:
I know that Sabertooth overvolts Vcore when you put LLC to moderate, high etc, so for instance I put 1.36 manually, it shows 1.375 idle, and then 1.4 load
Should I add the .04v to that ( according the the chart from hardwarecanucks) in my mind when I OC, or is that around the real value ?
I'm asking BC I was trying to keep the system under 1.375 under load at 4.7 with LLC set to High, thinking that I will have the 0.03-0.04v being added to the Vcore without my knowledge.

First off, I do really recommend the ripjaw Z series. Ripjaw X can throw sporadic issues on X79. Because the X are marginally stable on X79, I am not surprised that a little extra heat can be the difference between being stable and not.

That said, the Gskill fan will not fit. Instead I ordered up a pair of the corsair ram coolers here:

The fit is tight but it will work.

With the video card already in place what I do is place the lower bracket (loosely sliding it in between the GPU and DIMM tabs then install the fan with the upper bracket pre attached by securing the aeembly to the already place lower bracket. I do this because I have cross fire water cooled cards and it is a pain to remove the GPUs. However, if you can remove the GPU the installation is super simple.

As I said the fit is real tight but it fits. For an extra margin of safety, I put a tiny strip of black electrical on the outside of the lower bracket just in case it touches the back of the GPU.

Is anyone here able to get their Asus mobo (I have a Gene ATM) stable with BCLK strap higher than 100mhz? If pcie bus speed is tied to bclk then we have no chance right? So why are the extra straps there? I guess sandy couldn't run ram at 2400 even though the strap was available, only now with ivy can we run beyond the 2133 limit. Is this the same case with sandy-E ??

Can I ask a (hopefully) simple question about Fast Boot?

I upgraded my BIOS to 2105 using the CAP converter, cleared the CMOS (by pressing the button on the back), everything appears to be working properly except Fast Boot.

If I enable it, I just get a message when I boot up asking me to "Reinsert boot disk and press any key" or something along those lines (can't remember the exact phrasing, it's a long sentence). It's basically the message you get if you don't have any operating system installed or something. If I disable Fast Boot, it works fine.

I can only presume that with Fast Boot enabled my boot drive SSD (Crucial M4, attached to Intel 6G port) isn't being initalised properly.

What can I do to resolve this?

Sounds like the system may be booting too quickly to recognize the drive for the OS. There should be a boot delay in the BIOS, but I don't remember the name off-hand.

Hello, First post here.
I'm in the process of a new build around the P9X79 Deluxe / i7-3930K. I'll operate my OS from a Vertex4 SSD & also have two WD RE4's for RAID0. Windows7 X64
I noticed Asus uses the IRST enterprise V3.2.0.1126 drivers for SATA from their download site. Intel has RSTe v.3.2.0.1134 on their site.
Also noticed that Intel has new IRST v.11.6.0.1030 (9/13/2012) non enterprise drivers and in the release notes it states " RST 11.6 is the first RST release to contain support for X79 platforms (HEDT)."
Can and should I use the RST 11.6.0.1030 instead of the enterprise drivers? Is there any advantage between the two. I've always used IRST non enterprise in the past for my RAID setups.
I realize I need to load in the F6 drivers before install. If not the 11.6.0.1030, then which drivers do you recomend?

I'm thinking the exact same thing. I'm starting my build this weekend and was wondering which drivers to use.
It does look like there are still alot of bugs with the RST version. Should we just stick with the one on the Asus site?

Thanks for that Raja, but it doesnt explicitly say "tri-sli" (as other mobos do) and you only get a single (short) SLI bridge

Finding a TRI-SLI bridge for those spacings is proving all but impossible and Asus Tech Support (through the website) just arent replying

Any idea which TRI-SLI bridge would work and where I can get one (rather that use three seperate ribbons) ?

Updates are made, only where required and if they qualify on our boards - I don't have an ETA at this point. Backwards compatibility, I am not sure of, there are instances where an OROM or driver update may break an old RAID array.
