28nm is still months away at best. Expect 2012 to be the Year of the Paper Launch for quite a few GPU products.

This card is meant to hit a competitive, affordable market niche in time for the biggest shopping season of the year.

Hmm just seems odd when we get ati mobile 7xxx at the dec 7. (In the new Envy) that they aint coming sooner in desktop allthough desktop chips are larger (And therefore harder to manufacture without errors on new node)

They're just clearing stock of GF110's that didn't make the 570 cut. This one's probably just for the holiday season and in limited quantities.

You mean the HD 7350, 7450, 7570 and 7670 rebrands of the Cedar, Caicos and Turks architecture?

I'm actually wondering if we'll see a similar occurrence that we witnessed with the GTX 465... Some being unlockable.

They look to be the same PCB and same chip as the GTX 570. As such, I wouldn't be surprised to see some manufacturers flash 570 as 560ti 448's just to meet demand. If that ends up the case, these could end up very nice buys.

Even if they were I really, really wouldn't recommend it. While many GTX 465 manufacturers used GTX 470 PCBs, most GTX 560 448 cards are based off of a GTX 560 Ti PCB + PWM which doesn't bode well for long-term stability if those extra SMs were unlocked.

Well, there goes my hope of flashing my GTX570 with the bios of the 560 448 and running them in sli. This is one of the areas where I really prefer AMD. If anything this card and GTX570 are more similar than GTX560ti and this 448 model and those will work in sli while I'll have to pay damn near launch price for a second card.

    Kepler can't come soon enough.

Good to know. I'm surprised the 560Ti pcb and pwn would be enough to handle a GF110. Definitely didn't know it had the room for 10 memory chips as opposed to 8. Learn something new every-day I suppose.

Thankfully, that Asus isn't! Last time around I bought an EVGA. That's the last time I'll buy reference cooler. Also, EVGA sucks.

Well, they lost my RMA and no longer return my phone calls, so forgive me if I'm not singing from the rooftops.

Play GTA 4 with moderate setting at 1280x1024 and 1GB graphics card will start to choke at some point.
Play it with full settings at fullHD and you are looking at 1.6GB vram minimum.

Is it the view distance that eats all the ram? If so, does it look that much better on a 2 gig card?

It is likely the view distance that eats alot of it, I had a GTX580 1.5GB and played all max at 1280x1024, then went to GTX560Ti 1GB, and every 2 minutes it would choke as it run out of VRAM and had to swap it out, during this time the game would run at 2fps for up to 10 seconds, and i was killed
I then went to GTX560Ti 2GB and it runs like a dream.

Regarding the question, view distance lets you see further, enemies, traffic etc, and especially helps during helicopter fights.

Someone at OCN has apparently bought an EVGA GTX560ti 448 at Frys for $300. Sadly, its a factory overclocked model so its hare to make too many conclusions on the msrp.

Are these things replacing the GTX570? They are OOS at EVGA, stock is low at Newegg and prices are sky high.

There are no "reference" GTX 560 448 cards.

Actually, I just got a closer look at some additional cards.

Looks like MOST are using a 6+1 phase design which SHOULD be enough for unlocking if that option becomes a possibility. On the other hand, I have seen three that only have a 4+1 or 5+1 design.

It still pisses me off that I won't be able to sli one of these with my GTX570. Lord knows that the MSRP on GTX570 won't move. It always pays to be an early adopter.
