    Samsung 830 benchmarks

The Samsung 830 is now available in some capacities.

I ordered the 128GB for my MacBook and it arrived today, so, a few benchmarks was in order and it does look great!

So, anyone got some of the other capacities?

Any idea why AS-SSD does not report a value for the (512B) read Acc. time ?

No, I made several attempts with the same outcome. (it just failed)

The QD64 writes (threads) is also weird, I checked with iometer and it agrees with my benchmark which shows ~29000 iops at QD64. AS SSD repeatedly showed < 75MiB/s, not sure what to make out of it, the Samsung had no issues during other tests.

The Samsung 470s also have problems with high QD 4KB writes. I think Samsung optimized their SSDs for low QD writes.

I really want the 830 120GB, but Plextor just released their updated MP2 line with a "server grade" (their words) Marvell controller and 32nm Toshiba Toggle NAND. The model it replaces was basically a Corsair P3, and consequently was not stellar. The new drive in it's 120GB capacity seems to have the same sequential numbers as the 830 120GB but probably higher 4K QDs @ 32+ as they quote 65K iops. Here in the States the 830 comes with a full copy of Norton Ghost and Batman:Arkham Asylum.

Nice results. Excluding QD64 results the 830 is faster than the 2 X25-E’s I used to run in R0.

Has anyone run these on a fast raid card yet?

I have only got one drive so if I ran the test it would only show
    a) that it works on that raid card (compatible)
    b) the performance of the raid card

I'll check that it is compatible with the Areca 1880 and the LSI 9265.

Very nice. Does the 830 have a large cache? (I'm loooking at the QD1 4K write performance)

It's got a 256MB cache so yes, it has a rather large cache

The benchmarks are run with C states disabled and that makes a difference, I'll check if I can run a few tests with C states Enabled.

OK, here is a few with C States Enabled, one can clearly spot the difference.

For some reason AS SSD is able to get a more correct result on 4K QD64 writes, will have to re-test this.

Here are some 64GB 830 benchmarks from the 830 I'm endurance testing.

Yes but none on the PCH/ICH, will do one as soon as I get the opportunity.

It performs better than I thought, one can easily see the similarities with the other capacities.

Ummm, depends on what capacity you're referring to, but I'd say they're pretty close on average.

I got the drive, ran two benchmarks, then put it work in the endurance test so I didn't have much time. Modern drives aren't really benchmarked and reviewed in smaller capacities so I though I would post these for the benefit of those looking at the 64GB model.

If you're looking at RAID 0 numbers for the 64, I'd guess that you'd get the same writes as a 128 model, but near 1000MBs seq reads.
