Steve Jobs Voted Most Influential Man in Video Games

He didn’t develop a single game, console, or arcade machine himself, but don’t tell these survey participants that.

According to Eurogamer (via MyNintendoNews), the majority of the 1,000 people surveyed (26%) believe that Steve Jobs is the leading man who shaped video games. Meanwhile, Gabe Newell, the co-founder of Valve – one of the most influential companies in the industry – received only 16% of the votes. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario – the most recognizable game character in the world – received only 7% of the votes. Oddly, Mark Zuckerberg, a guy who hasn’t done a darn thing for gaming (not directly, at least), received 3% of the votes.

this is kinda disturbing but who do people know from gaming, and jobs (or really john i) did alot to kill off portable gaming and get it replaced with casual and puzzle "games".

this survey only shows that steve won a popularity contest. its probably 10:1 ratio that people can name the ceo of apple, vs any other company.

He only won cause he is dead, simple as that.

Just because he happened to be the CEO of a Company where a Team (none of the People in which are CEO by the way) developed the iPhone on which supposedly everyone plays Angry Birds doesn't mean that Steve Jobs ever created any Game anyone ever cared about.

This. Most people don't know anyone in the industry's names, but Steve Jobs is pretty much a buzzword name nowadays.

How Bizarre, one would expect the developer from Nintendo who coded the Mario games (Shigeru Miyamoto?) to be either topping the rankings or in the top 3, and of course Gabe Newel and John Carmack.
However the only think I can think Steve Jobs has done for video gaming was market (leach?) Steve Wozniak's Breakout game. Whether you like it or not, Breakout is a pretty addictive game and lives on in many clones or fan made projects. I would have preferred Wozniaks name on the list as opposed to Jobs' though as Jobs was all about marketing.
Oh and as for Suckerbug getting 3% of the votes, I guess farmville addicts were confused as to who made their addition

This sickens me. I've been into games and computers before it was "cool." To see this is simple sheepish behavior.

I'd figure someone from a REAL video game company (Sega, Nintendo, Square, Rare, etc) would at least have a shot.
    You must [not] advance.

Shows that nobody knows who he is, so they think his name is part of it because its listed in the question selections.

Well, when i read the original article from Eurogamers... i can tell this is what we can call a marketing survey.. if we follow them, they have ask people who work in the video games . Untill the way they have make the survey was really special, i can't imagine professionnal of the video games have really give this type of response. it's not the first time we see in UK, complete false survey, study. Who are basically ordered by marketing team.

    here's how start the article:

" That's according 1000 people working within the video games industry, who filled out a London Games Conference survey ahead of its start (10th November). """

    Wait... wtf?

I really respect Jobs for what he did with Apple after doing my own research on him, but this makes no sense...

By the quote alone, they are poking fun at the fact that the survey participants are idiots.

Unless the full article comes across differently... coz I cant be stuffed reading it.
