Because Rev 1.0 was sampled a few months ago.

Different VRM layout, and 1.2 has some component rationalization.

but why bother? i saw the rev 1.0 and rev 1.2 are different, but if its a sample, then it can't be sold or RMAed, why bother releasing a different revision for release of retail product.

Decent looking board tho.

I dont mind ditching PCI, but they need to have room for 2x triple slot GPU and a PCI-E soundcard, or 3x double slot GPU + soundcard now.

Only the lowest model has that.

Triple slot spacing is something ASUS needs, MSI still has the common sense of making good dual slot custom GPU cooling solutions. Triple GPU plus sound card is possible on both GD65 boards in a case with 8 or more PCI brackets, on the upside you get a much beefier PWM on both core and uncore sections. If rumors of launch silicon power requirements are true your daily overclock is going to be affected by the quality of motherboards PWM.

Gotta admit though, both GD45 boards are sharp looking. Excellent layout, no extraneous features (*cough* marvel sata), voltage readpoints, rear panel clear CMOS... I'm glad they've made the effort to overhaul the PCBs post feature cull, unlike say GB who yanked off a couple of sata stacks and called it a day.

I understand that this is going to be a quad channel system. But if you have only 4 dimms on the damn board, why cant they be on the same side of the socket?...Like every other motherboard available?

The 65 can hold 3 cards + one audio... just the same as the 45. I'm not sure what people are talking about.

I am shocked to see such a large socket on a mATX board. I like it!

I'm also glad they used 1x slots EVERYwhere on the cheap baord. PCI is dying, and people w/ 2 or 3 cards won't care what slots are covered up.

MSi has used the "Military class" moniker for a while now, and its very well deserved of it. They make extremely stable boards that OC very easily.

X79A-GD65 (MS-7736 V1.1) Has interesting heat sinks with the heat pipe connecting them. I'd put a fusion style water block for chipset cooling on it. (if possible)

2500K will absolutely definitely NOT work with X79 dude...... 2500K is s1155, this is s2011. The sockets are nothing alike, can tell just by looking

I can't tell by looking. The X79 socket CPU bracket does look much better and larger.

So is there going to be Ivy Bridge flavors for S1155? I'm confused about the new Z68 MBs that are "True PCI 3.0" ready for Ivy Bridge CPUs.

It looks like most existing s1155 boards will support Ivy Bridge when it comes out, but there *might* be some performance loss or missing features. I am absolutely sure that the vendors will release new/revised boards for IB launch

Nice looking boards. I hope the price will not be so high for the GD65 model. Thats the one I'm most interested in. Hope we do get to see som BigBang and GD80 boards too soon.
