    "Friction" might not be the right word but the basic concept is the same. Heat generated in a CPU (or any other electrical device) derives from electron collisions with the conductor and the resulting loss of kinetic energy. Transistors also produce more heat than simple resistance in a wire for example, because of the way they operate, pack millions of them into a CPU and you have a nice source of heat.

    Dont even need collisions, just magnetic fields passing by each other.
