eVGA SR-3 will have some competition for this round...

For those that are looking for high-quality, feature-laden workstation motherboards, ASUS has a few of those too. The company has other workstation class motherboards, but as much as we want to, we unfortunately we cannot discuss them at this time. But what we can tell you, is that the EVGA SR-3 will no longer be the only choice this time around.

    I say, bring it on!!!

If this indeed true, this will make me a very happy man. I am not a fan of EVGA's bioses. Had nothing but problems getting my SR-2s stable. But they were the only enthusiast dual socket platform available.

SR-2 can be stable but it takes a lot of learning since the communication between the 2 socket setting are completely new for us who used to overclock just 1 socket. But once you figure that part out it becomes real easy to make it stable. My SR-2 with Ubuntu has been up and running continuously 3 months without crashing/rebooting at fullload 24/7 (4ghz) just like my other single socket PC

it'd be nice if they could combine 2 diff types of CPU like it was portrayed din the early prototypes.

had problems with ASUS BIOS, they charge too much, there was that "enthusiast" dual 775 board you all forget. At this point, nah. Unless it's NO OC, pure workstation grade, I just can't trust it for dual socket, I'd like to be proved wrong, but I doubt I will be, especially with ASUS.

    Mmmmm....yummy

I do hope Asus learns from EVGA's mistakes and does (or at least considers) the following:

    1) Makes a board that fits most decent cases (ie:make the board(s) E-ATX).
    2) Skips the lousy, useless and incredibly hot NF200 chips. Dual IOHs are where it's at...plenty of lanes....that work with all adapters.
    3) Produces a clean, beefy and robust design using top notch, low profile components (ie: POSCAPS).
    4) Skips the extra, space wasting crap (ie: poor performing onboard RAID adapters) with the possible exception of a good USB 3.0 solution.
    5) Leans heavily on Intel to finally give us a top binned CPU that's both fully unlocked and has both QPIs onboard enabled (ie: a fully un-neutered, unmolested CPU) that has been completely absent since the QX9775.

If they do these, they'll have a MAJOR hit on their hands.

Asus is not limited to only fubaring Intel motherboards.

L1N64 WS/SLI which promised support for quad core opterons but failed, and required a 2nd spin. The 2nd version cost more than the original and required registered ram whereas the original was fine with unbuffered.

I have a C32 board, and I wouldn't be surprised if they said the KCMA-D8 needed a respin to ensure compatibility with Valencia and beyond.
