isn't it about time that the us government decided to investigate how apple gets patents like this ?

If people didn't Apple would be even worse when it comes to patent litigation, aka Rambus. Back in the day they had some smart engineers and made some advances that were more or less thrown into a pool of public tech along with others in JEDEC. However After burning bridges through inferior products and high royalties people more or less tried to ignore them like a bad memory, so unable to compete on any level Rambus because the company we all know and revile today. Oversimplification, but when you consider the inarguably predatory nature of Rambus patent hide/share strategy, it rings a bit of this case with apple and what is more or less the standard of the industry.

No way, Rambus had technology of it's own and they still have it. Apple and Rambus are very different animals.
The apple bubble will burst soon enough. Just sit back and enjoy the show

Am I the only person on XS who would see some sort of poetic ironic pseudo justice if Rambus were to lodge a lawsuit against Apple for patent infringement?

I don't think they want do it, anyway, not right now, with economy crysis ... each time i read this type of "patent " and lawsuit, i cant help me and can imagine there's a lot who are accepted by protectionism of USA entreprise and economy. Maybe the reason why google is not directly sued... on the other hand, we have South Korean, chinese, taiwan entreprise... ( Samsung have becoming the leader on smartphone worldwide marketshare shippment in Q3 ( 24.8% vs 14.6% for Apple ). Strangely the same patent have been refused in other country patent court .

Apple Seeks to Register Former Logo as European Mark
Apple Inc. (AAPL), maker of the iPod and iPhone, filed an application with the European Trademark Office seeking to register an image of a Granny Smith apple as a trademark, CNet News reported.
The green-skinned apple image was previously used as a logo by the Beatles’ record label Apple Corps Ltd., according to CNet News. Apple Inc., based in Cupertino, California, applied to register the mark in Europe for a range of classifications including games, computer hardware and advertising, CNet News said.
In 2007, Apple filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office indicating that it had been transferred the right to use the former Apple Corps logo, according to CNet News.
All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
Well, the good thing here is, they force other companies to come up with something new.
I am bored with this apple like stuffs, every companies keeps trying to copy apple, design, software.
Agree! IMHO: patents are there to protect people from copying genuine idea ... Don't you get angry if somebody copy your design and make all the money since your stuff is more expensive than their stuff? and you in turn lost your bread and butter.
In addition it forces other people come up with their own idea which is better for consumers anyway.
Yes, it's not that patenting should be banned, but what it takes in order to have a patent made needs to be re-thought out. Apple's abuse of a poor patenting system is why people are mad, dumb founded and generally appalled.
Next up: Apple patents the act of breathing air. Next version of iOS will have a "feature" to measure how many times you breathe in a day and conveniently calculates the amount owing and automatically charges your Apple account.
