Good or no?
Good or no?
I've read some stuff about these new cpu's but jee wiz...
I mean, clocked up to 5ghz is lower perf then a stock clocked older gen cpu wth..
I'm glad I got what I got, if i would of waited for new 8 cores man oh man I would of been pissed...
Sorry for hijacking the thread, just after seeing those comparison screens I'm still wondering wth happened with the bios engineer department at amd, peeps forgot how to tweak the cpu timings I guess...
I read something about it's core's actually being half of what it's stated to be.
HT to be more specific.
If it's getting the performance that it is now then it's doing ok but, I dn, whatever I guess.
4.5GHz with 1.47 is not that great for a FX cpu. My 8 core bulldozer runs Prime at 4630 with 1.41V

Not impressive to me but i've you're gonna run that as a daily setting it might be of interest for you. High clocks impress me a lot more than low volts.

I use a dvom with temp sensor placed at the IHS..Most of the time im with in +or - two degrees when using core temp. Im still running 5000mhz and 1.6v volts
I do have very good water cooling.
I havnt had much free time to tweak the 6100 in last couple of weeks but they can handle voltage if cooled right .
Its not the fastest chip , its definatly a fun clocker.
As for volts( stock)up to 1.48v = 4600mhz/4800mhz with my set up. After that i gotta give it 1.53v+ for 5000+mhz and 1.58v for 5100/5200mhz ..this is what is needed for the vdroop my mobo has.

I see this chip OC well. How does it do in gaming with CFX?
Currently here in South Africa this the only FX we can get
Thanks for the reply. So for gaming this chip is good. Currently using a X4 965 @ 3800mhz so wanna upgrade
You need the FX 6100 over 4.6 Ghz if you are thinking about gaming...single thread performance is very poor on this architecture and multithreaded scaling in games as well as GPU is very limited due to CPU bottleneck.
I'd just bump the clockspeed to 4-4.2 Ghz, it would be better than the 6 core FX chip. If you are able to get a hold of a 6 core Phenom II chip and overclock near 4 Ghz as well it will be a much better gaming chip than the FX-6100 (you'd need 5 Ghz+ to improve on it, not going to happen).

Seems i Will be holding onto my 965 till the BD Fx-81xx become available
I was getting an average of 66fps with the 955 OC'd to 3.8Ghz, and with the FX6100 OC'd to 4.255Ghz am getting an average of 110fps. Seems like a pretty good jump to me! I realize the human eye can only see up to 60fps. But even still the FX6100 was a pretty good performance boost for me. However my 955 was a C2 stepping and it took me several weeks of tuning to get it stable at 3.8Ghz and with the FX6100, it only took a few minutes to get it stable at 4.2Ghz. Still can't get the NB to play nicely @ 2600. No matter what I do it won't stay stable for more than 10 minutes prime. May be heat as my RAM is @ 2200mhz.
The fx's like ram freqency over NB freqency... I have yet to go over 2700nb no matter what i do .I believe it has to do with Bios ram timings in my case. I really can t complain. Im now running all Ram slots laoded . before i was only using two. added four more gigs and didnt have to raise any voltages at the same clocks. I will be trying the new F7 bios soon and a 6950 for some fun. Im even tempted to run dual 6850's if the price is right. My 5750's are tired lol.

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
This seems to be my problem as well. All in all, I'm not going to go as far to say I'm impressed. But I'm not unhappy with the performance of the new chips. Now to get Gigabyte to straighten out the BIOS. F7 is an epic fail! It fixed C&Q, and CPB, but destroyed the vcore! Set it to 1.45v in BIOS and get 1.36v in windows, with vdroop, it goes down to 1.29v under load. I have to have it set this way to make the chip stable @ stock speeds with stock vcore. If I set the vcore to normal in BIOS, I get 1.18v in windows, and nothing is stable. F6 was much better even with it's C&Q, and CPB problems.
For gaming its worth the upgrade with the ability to Clock like mad.
This chip clocks way different than the 965 and will like high freqency ram with 2600 or below NB..
I had douts at first when i started seeing Sandra and other bench marks. When i started playing and noticing how i had higher fps and could multi task with teamspeak and downloading files all while gaming and listing to my favorite Tune. I was like yup my 555x4 just got powned.
Upgraded from a X4 @ 4200mhz and i noticed a differance, even when using the FX at stock clocks. The chip might not be fast compute wise but it seems to load and run all my apps ands games very nice. It does run well at 5000mhz with xfire..Even with a single card youll notice the Higher clocks this cpu can manage. It all helps your fps .
Note: FX6100 = 3cores with two compute units per core. they should have labled it a Tripple....and the *'s a quad!
The real Bonus,Use higher freqency for CPU Clocks with High ram freqency to make this chip happen.
This Six Shooter is fun..now a EightOneTwentynade is only $149 .
Thanks for all the replies. Now the question in front on me is get a FX6100 now or wait till 15Dec and hopefully get a FX 81XX.
If you can hold out a few more weeks, get a FX81xx. pricess are dropping fast and thus will be a better option than the 6100 hands down .
