I just sent this to Intel.
I took out a bit of it here as there are names involved:
    XXXXXXXX,
I know you don't control what Intel releases but maybe you can get this to the people who do make those decisions.
Bottom line is you guys have an immense product but we can get more out of it than the way it's released IF you just let us do it.
What we need is an unlocked multi 8 core SB-e with both QPI links enabled and the straps also enabled.
My guess is the strap being enabled is a scary one as bumping a 8 core to even 125 above 4GHz may generate more heat than the design can handle
BUT an unlocked multi thats only seen in BIOS's that are written for it, IE: Asus and EVGA SR-X is going to be bought by people that understand that extreme cooling is needed.
Let us show the world what those cpu's are truly capable of.
Read here and you can see the frustration and these people have the money to back up what they say.

    That was beautiful..
    We loves you Sir Dave
    Thank you
I wish they clock... 8 cores/16 threads @ 3.8-4ghz would rock WCG. i was hoping to get a dual 8 core cruncher going

High Frequency Traders are not going to be happy at all with this..
Infact i know a bunch who are stocking up on 5690's and sr-2's already.. They might just skip this generation if this keeps up !
    Hope someone is listening ...

intel is definitely missing some product segments. the extreme edition cpus and such were made to fill empty product segments, but their lineup has not been updated properly for modern times. where is the 6 or 8 core chip with vt-d and ecc and overclocking? 3770k has vt-d and ecc disabled so you cant have it all. the xeons have overclocking disabled so you cant have it all. why wont intel let us PAY THEM to have it all?

intel product management people have tripped up badly for the enthusiasts who have money to pay. there is a big hole in the high end.

and with zero competition from AMD we have no choice but to take whatever intel drools out of its mouth.

Q2, What are the usages for Intel® Xeon® processor E5 family in other new markets such as storage controllers, switches, HPC and high end gaming systems?

A2: For high-end gaming – Intel® Core™ i7 Extreme Processor is best positioned to address the high-end gaming market.
And he's WRONG! I can put 32GB memory in a system to cache everything I do. the same 32GB full for 5 years means MANY memory errors as it ages. nobody serious would do this without ECC. AMD supports ECC in $500 computers. but intel treats us like we're clowns. I shouldn't have to make this sacrifice, this compromise.

"Core™ i7 Extreme Processor is best positioned to address the high-end"
and its not. so you see what I'm saying. the organization does not get it. there is no reversing this right now. if they change their tune it'll be years before we see the difference. the fact is, intel does not realize we want it all. intel has a blind spot and we are in it.

no matter how much money I have, whatever I buy has something disabled. intel screwed up.

You said it well and later in that interview the guy comments about "15 World Records"
Well put a pair of those in my hands and unlock the damn chips and I'll show you a new record in just about every category that exists and there's HUNDREDS of guys here that can out do what I can in a heartbeat!
    Very frustrating..

A while back I asked some people at Intel: 'Don't you have a guy with good OC'ing skills there to test and see what the potentials are?"
The answer was "No we don't"
I responded with " Hire a guy like chew, pay him a flat 6 figures, give him a 200 sq ft lab and in a week he'll tell you more about the potentials than you find in 6 months of testing your way"

You know for a company that hires the absolute cream of the crop in terms of God given inteligence they miss so many things it's really sad.

It says it there right at the bottom of the first page:
    There are 7 physical PCI-E X16 slots..
If you use up to three vids cards all get a X16 signal.
If you use Four video cards you get a X16 signal to the first two and a X8 signal to the last two cards

Like they'd really listen to me? The bigger the company the more rigid they are.
Like a locomotive running wild it only knows to go straight ahead.
They constantly comment that the OC'ers are "only 3%" of the total but what they ignore is that 3%, IF thats a true number and I have my doubts on that, spend a huge amount on merchandise on a per person basis.
What Intel has now is total control of the product. No overclocking except by multiplier and all chips locked except the K chips.
This is what they've always wanted, total control of the market and every facet of that market.
They want their customers like little robots that do what Intel wants, not what the customer wants.
We are quickly heading towards a George Orwellian 1984 type society where all factions of life are totally controlled by big business who effectively run the governments.
    End of rant.

Ignoring the rights or wrongs of it.... society has been like that for a while. A big % of the population are quite happy to be told what they like, how, where and when. It's one of the foundations of capitalist consumerism. McDonalds, Apple, X-Factor, Americas Got Talent, the big blockbuster at the cinema, the Billboard top 10, Walmart...... the people who look beyond that are essentially just trouble-makers and the dominant culture can turn nasty on us

This topic can go places.... most of which are not suitable for this forum (hate in a PM please!)

LOL, agreed with all. It just hit home with me over the last few months trying to deal with big Blue and realising the mindset of the company.
I saw just the opposite when I visited Austin.Tx last Sept.. Minds open to imput.

I don't think you can. My E5-2687W's show 38x for 2 cores,36X for 4 cores and 34x for all cores on turbo.
Funny thing is that HWINFO64_395 shows a max multi of 40X tucked away in there somewhere..
Damned if I can get it to show more than 38X and this is on a SM X9DAi board with the latest beta bios from them.
That said, you have Vince(Kingpin) at EVGA and I wouldn't be surprised at anything he can make it do..

Im going to order pair of E5-2687W's, board is allready its way to here, hope i get it and cpu's for friday so i can start to play .
If it it is maxing all cores at 34x then i think its still upgrade vs my SR-2 machine (12 cores at 4ghz vs 16 cores at 3.4ghz), but then im hoping intel releases at least one Xeon E5 with unlocked multi and straps, i would buy it no matter what it would cost.

Hope kingpin can do some magic with E5-2687W and bios's to make it run 3.8Ghz with all cores

I have allready some E5-2640's here so even if cpu's wont arrive i can still test the board.

Already there, but wait till we have corporations fighting each other for that control. Take a look at Google sometime, within a year they will be able to tell you where to eat, what shows to watch, where to drive, who to talk to, etc. They have cellular, search engine, social sites and soon Google glasses. It was always assumed it would be big government taking the role of big brother, thats a myth.
