    Magicool Extreme Triple 180mm x 35mm Slim Radiator

    Has anyone seen this?

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14...RADI180X3.html

    Seems like a nice rad.
    Dimension: 580 x 180 x 35 mm
    (compared to SR-1 560mm: 605 x 153 x 55.9 mm)

    width shouldn't be a problem, since almost all cases are wider than 180mm. As for length it is even slightly shorter than shortest 560, so should fit inside some cases where 4x140 barely didn't fit.
    As for surface:

    3x180 = 97200
    4x140 = 78400

    There are some nice 180mm fans already, for example from silverstone.
    Also this rad seems perfect for LC in FT02, 2cm shorter than sr1, fits with buffer, can use stock fans, fact that it is slim, should not be a problem vs long gpu.

    Not bad for all the FT02 and Raven 02 owners out there. But I guess thats about the only case it will fit, without modding?

    FPI also seems sensible in that frozencpu product pic with ruler. I wonder how noise/performance wise very limited 180mm fan selection in market does. Otherwise more frontal area always good. And yes, seems tailor made for FT02/RV02 cases (both 3x180 fan config wise and lowered thickness, due limited space between GPUs and fans in those cases).
    If there will be good 180mm fans out there, i imagine 3x180mm rad size to be very popular in future. Shorter then 560 rads so should fit in more full towers, and less unused space by sides. It looks though that most vendors jump from 120/140 fans to 200+ ones instead of 180 fans, so probably it will work only for silverstone if no-modding is considered.

    I wonder how about performance, there is no reviews of this rad yet. As for surface, 3x180mm is ~24% more than 4x140mm.

    This has more surface area than two 3*120mm radiators. A case designed for such a rad at the top and efficient use of space elsewhere would be very decent size/cooling potential imo.

    Except thickness has no such impact on performance. It will performe little worse sure, but it depends on fan speed, there are certain speeds where thick rads perform exactly the same as their thin equivalents (if both are low fpi).
    As for fan selection aergument, I would agree, but do we really need a wide selection? In the end it comes to the question: "Is there a decent fan or not?". If there is just one decent 180mm fan (silverstone ones are considered as best so far) it is enough to be happy. There is gigantic selection of 120mm fans, and everyone ends up using gentlee typhoons. It is not the selection making them good, they just happen to be decent. Maybe there is just a 180mm fan that is good enough to justify this radiator.

    i dont think he was talking about thickness i believe he was talking about the width of the radiator and wider radiators (even if they are thin) will outperform narrower (and thicker) radiators most of the time. but as you said good luck fitting this in most cases

    Nope it only has a 50% increase in the amount of surface area over a 360mm.

    You sure?

    Triple 120 x 2: (3*1202)*2 = 86,400 mm2

    Triple 180: 3*1802 = 97,200 mm2

    = 12.5% more frontal area than two triple 120s

    Actual surface area (that is, total heat dissipation area) depends on FPI and thickness of the core, of course. But the frontal area is greater, which generally provides better gains compared to thickness (assuming similar fin surface area and effective airflow).

    Should be interesting, but I kind of wish the fpi was lower... judging from my sister's ft01.. the 180mm fan isn't what I could call "tolerable" at 1200-1300.. it's quite nice at 700rpm though.

    And confirmation this actually fits into ft02/rv02:

    It seems you need to removed filters first, since fans are shifted slightly into mobo tray, so it all has to be pushed towards side panel, in order to fit there. But looks 100% doable. Now let's wait for first build with 3x180 in that case.

    I'm looking at using either 2 of the 180s or a 2x180 in a NZXT Phantom.

    Any performance data would be awesome.

    As for performance, they guy with 3x180 worklog had good testing platform for it (3x gtx580 and 2600k), but he refused to provide some serious data regarding water temps. Only posted some lousy hwmonitor screenshot ("after bf3 session"), and that's it. So far peformance of these rads remains a mystery.

    I'm not super fussed, 540mm of rad for a 32nm chip, and maybe a single card isnt exactly going to be a huge heatload.

    3 580s on the other hand.

    No you are right Bruce, but it will give the possibility of running the rig VERY quietly and also have lots of room for upgrading.

    Spoke to Performance PCs, they are looking at getting in (the duals anyway) around Mid December

    The duals could be sweet for raven03 owners or ft02 owners that don't want to dump their hard drive racks but still have alot of cooling.

    I just got a stock notification on the double from frozencpu. It's been so long I forgot I ever signed up for it, and now that I think about it, I'm not sure why. I don't have a case that would accommodate that thing.
