Do you want to leave this page popup and double posting

As per title, anyone else affected by this?

I sometimes click post, it then hangs for 20 odd seconds then I get a popup saying "do you want to leave this page" with "leave page" and "stay on page" as the options. Sick of waiting by this point I usually click leave page, but it doesn't leave at all and often creates a double post.

Could be related to ISP hardware failures etc no idea. Is it just me?

It's not only you. I think it has something to do with the ISP that the forums uses being awful and their stuff breaking.

I found if you click stay on this page, then click a different link and click leave this page it will only make one post.

I know there's workarounds, just curious forum behavior is all and wanted to find out if it was just me or a widespread issue.

Its created havoc over on the SSD endurance thread, but in the past couple days no one has been able to upload pictures of smart data. I think something else is going on too. The posting problems are bad, have been going on a while.

Haven't popped on by XS in ages.... but sounds like server and/or database isn't optimally tuned and configured and the server is running up against mysql database table locking issues.

you mean no one able to upload attachments ? again could be forum configuration issues for vB attachments.

Honestly we've had database problems off and on ever since the forums got switched onto the mac servers a few years back. Some of the big problems have long since been taken care of but we still have ongoing issues like this one

What would you use instead of mySQL? I'm no database guy so I don't know what's out there.

I'm a big fan of PostgreSQL. It's a more complete DBMS compared to what MySQL is, and it's truly open source, opposed to MySQL now being owned by Oracle now. It has much more functionality than MySQL, and with larger data sets handles it better, and has a wonderful user community. And it's completely free!

I have played with both quite a bit, and PostgreS has a bit of a stronger learning curve, but once you figure it out, you can fine tune it pretty well and get things running really fast. It may not have all the fancy plug-ins for php like MySQL does, but that's because it already has all that built in. I've found it much easier to build web apps with.

EDIT: it was also developed at Berkley... They make the best stuff!
