    xs = slowest site ever?

    40 seconds for "what's new" ?
15 seconds for next page in new posts?
15 seconds between clicking submit and this post showing up

    we need more ssds!

would be nice if i could take a "quick" look at xs again to see what's new

Yeah unfortunately lately XS has stood more for XtremelySlow.org/forums rather than the usual. Should be remembered how much traffic this site gets though so maintaining it might not be the easiest/cheapest either.

On my end, it's not exactly slow... but the links take forever to even start loading. Like in Firefox, the tab shows a white circle loading for a long time, then it turns green for like a second, then it's loaded.
Signatures make my posts look huge... but I'm not humble enough to completely remove my signature, so I kept this note explaining it.

We had two T1 lines go down on Thursday and the ISP has parts ordered, its been an issue as this ISP was plagued with problems now that we have gotten to know them.
We are using 100% of the bandwidth and plans for moving off this ISP are in the works.

that certainly explains the recent slowdown, i've never really seen XS slow like some users complained in the past, figured it must be ISP or something

Its maddening when you have a 30mbps connection and you're used to everything loading right away. I'm glad this is getting resolved soon.

This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions, twists all our arms collectively, but if sweetness can win, and it can, then I'll still be here tomorrow to high-five you yesterday, my friend. Peace.

I guess now's a good time to finally learn how T1 works

According to what I can find online, T1 is 1.544Mb/s. If two T1 lines (3.088Mb/s) and it made such a large difference to the site, we can assume the site has less than 10Mb/s bandwidth? That would mean that 100 simultaneous visitors would only get 100Kb/s each?

I think is time XS to move on a self managed (linux) dedicated Server on Europe.
With 49 Euros/month you can have 10TB/month on a 100/100 (in/out) Mbps line and with a good hardware config....

    Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Quadcore
    incl. Hyper-Threading Technology

    RAM 16 GB DDR3 RAM
    Hard disks 2 x 3 TB SATA 6 Gb/s HDD
    7200 rpm (Software-RAID 1)
    NIC 1 GBit OnBoard
    connected at 100 MBit
    Backup Space 100 GB
    Traffic Unlimited*
I use this config and i run on the same Server..

    • 7 COD2 Gameservers
    • 1 Garry's Mod (Steam) GameServer
    • 1 Teamspeak Server
    • 1 Ventrillo Server
    • 3 Forums (Vbulletin)
    • 1 Forum (IPB)
    • 1 Magazine (WordPress 3)

All services run Smoothly and without any LAG or Slowness and with a total 1,5 - 2 TB traffic/month..

LOL.... My forums are also XtremeCoders......

    Take a Look Here...
