ASUS has the manual available for download on their website (just select "Other" as the OS): http://www.asus.com/Display/LCD_Moni...278H/#download

I read through it and not much interesting to report.

I do have a question of my own though, can 3D blu-ray movies we viewed with this monitor and if so is an Nvidia 3d card required?

Yes they can be viewed, no it doesn't require an nVidia card to do so. However, I believe they would only be displayed at 720p due to the limitations of the HDMI port...with an nVidia card, you could watch at 1080p

Asus VG278H 3D Monitor with 3D Vision 2 Ready For Testing...

...if you are currently considering what new 3D monitor to get, then I’d recommend you to wait a bit more...
Down in the comments section, "Bloody" the editor, offers this:
...My first subjective impressions from the Asus monitor: very bright without the glasses (2D mode), brighter image with the glasses (3D mode), slightly reduced crosstalk/ghosting, but far from gone, feels very responsive… the screen is not glossy.

The old and new 3D Vision glasses work with Lightboost and provide the same level of brightness and crosstalk, so there is no much of a difference here. Both the new and old 3D Vision glasses work the same with old 3D monitors as well, but the new glasses still have larger lenses, more comfortable design, so there is some advantage...

What makes the Asus better than other LCD monitors this size , with comparable refresh rates and so forth? I've actually been looking at this Acer right here >>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009300

It's quite a bit cheaper and has some great reviews as well. 120hz , 3D capable and 2ms response time. I think I may be picking up one of these within the next few days , unless someone explains why the Asus is supposed to be better. I always had great luck with Acer monitors in the past , and this one looks pretty damn impressive.

I would go with the Asus just for the lightboost support. I would say that the darkness is the biggest issue with 3d vision and that shouldn't be a problem with the Asus. On top of that is ghosts a bit less than the Acer. You also get the new 3d glasses with the Asus which is also a plus.

Scale it down to 24" and it would be perfect. 1080p on 27" is not for me.

I went to egg to buy one as well and seen the issues being posted, bought the Acer 27 insted. I have the Asus 23 and it is great but sounds like the 27 is kinda hit or miss for people and didn't want to deal with RMA's and stuff if I didnt have too.

I also went to newegg and saw all of the negative reviews, especially about bad backlight bleed in the center. I've been waiting for this monitor to come out for what seems forever, and now this. I guess I'm going to wait for the benQ to come out, I want to purchase the monitor for 120hz fps gaming and don't care about 3d. Seems the asus might only be good for 3d. Shame, I was really looking forward to it, but that is a lot of negative responses fairly quickly after release to ignore. Hopefully some more reviews come out.

Pretty surprised with feedback on Asus. That Acer model would be perfect if it had 3D Vision 2 and Lightboost. It's even WLED TN panel (WLED is definitely an advantage in 2D mode, dunno how it impacts the 3D?), unlike the one in Asus.

Offtopic, since I'm just getting to know 3D and slowly reading reviews around the web so... Is 3D always displayed in 720p on all monitors and TVs or there are some that can display 1080p 3D?
Might as well consider getting the 3D TV for casual 3D gaming and just get some better monitor for everyday gaming and other uses...

I was really confused about this as well because nVidia really seems to downplay the 720p limitation of "3DTV Play"....
3D Vision really takes on two forms..."3D Vision" and "3DTV Play"

    3DTV Play
    • This is an extra piece of software which allows 3D Vision to be used on non-3d Vision compatible displays.
    • If you don't already have a 3D Vision IR emmitter hooked up to your PC, you must pay a one time $40 licensing fee to enable 3DTV Play on your system.
    • 3DTV Play is especially handy to give you the ability to use your HDMI v1.4 equipped HDTV (and the TV's matching 3D glasses) to use 3D Vision capabilities.
    • There are resolution limitations with 3DTV Play, either 720p @ 60Hz (for gaming) or 1080p @ 24Hz (for movie watching).
    • The main cause of the resolution limitations is the HDMI v1.4 cable, which does not support high enough bandwidth for 1080p @ 60Hz.
    • You can check the list of compatible displays here.

    3DVision
    • This is the original implementation and allows for full 1080p @ 60fps
    • This will only work with "3D Vision" stamped HW....nothing else.
    • "3D Vision Surround" provides support for up to 3 identical monitors for a more immersive experience.
    • The only large displays that are 3D Vision compatible are the Mitzubishi DLP rear projection HDTVs, and I cannot seem to figure out whether or not they actually support 1080p @ 60Hz.
    • I believe the Mitzubishi TVs only have HDMI connectors (leading me to the conclusion they would also be resolution limited), but I cannot seem to dig up this information :-/
    • All the 3D Vision monitors currently on the market support 1080p @ 60Hz via a dual-link-DVI cable.
    • Some upcoming monitors with a "DisplayPort" will also have compatibility.
    • You can view the list of compatible displays here.

I think that about covers it, but let me know if you have any other questions, I've looked into this a lot lately

Thanks mia, think I got it all concerning the 3D! You did awesome job, putting it simple like that. You should teach man, I'm telling you...

Btw, saw a few models that support 3DVision over HDMI 1.4a on that link you provided, like that BenQ monitor. And as far as Mitsubishi TVs, they're definitely a no-go for me, rarely seen in Europe plus prices are out of my reach.

Think no questions left except ones on which I won't find an answer, like... why OEMs are slacking with DP connection on their products when it has so much more potential, nVidia on it's GPUs and monitor makers on their products? And why the hell nVidia still didn't add support for "full" audio transport over HDMI on higher priced GPUs? Like, there's no a gamer that will use his mean-machine for something other than gaming.

Anyway, gonna look at the other camp and see what they offer with HD3D, then wait a few months to get a new VGA and monitor. Hopefully 6xx cards will be good and add some more support 'cause they're promising us beasts and hopefully the prices won't be what's being speculated around the web. And that BenQ, looks good on papre. Gonna be prepared! Armed with knowledge!

after countless hours of indecision i pulled the trigger on the VG278H, yay!

the only thing holding me back was the price (~530€ here in germany) so i waited. now i got a pretty good offer (20% rebate) and ordered it for 429€. still kind of expensive, but it was now or never (i was so excited about it that i also placed a m4 128gb in my shopping cart lmao, complete facelift for my pc )

i hope it'll perform well and doesn't suffer from the backlight issues that have been reported over at the hardforums.
