No decent mATX MB for AM3+ platform?

I was trying to find a MB to build a low cost gaming rig for my friend

there are plenty of choice for Socket FM2 platform but my friend want more multi-tasking so even A10 is not good enough

I suggested FX-6300 (which is the best deal in town, $ 860 HKD = ~$110USD)
the market got lots of ATX board for AM3+ platform but for mATX board
the last "decent" one was ASUS M5A88-M and the local vendor said the product have EOL and no longer in stock.

Only the cheapo and aged 760G based mATX with 2x DIMM is available on market
and they sucks (lack of USB 3.0 for sure, let alone SATA3 as they usually pair with SB710) , the worst part of these board is they tend to support up to 95W TDP CPU
which mean FX-6300 is the highest CPU you can pair with these board

I understand AM3+ will EOL after Piledriver (I forget StreamRoller will use new AM4 or Socket FM3? )
but why the market still got 740G/760 when the newer 880G + SB850 chipset disappear from the market?

Yup this has been a problem for years!

Probably eat away at APU sales but then again it might of helped sell more FX chips.

Cost to much for mobo makers to design it I guess

The worst part is I don't understand is why there are still 740G/760G or GeForce 7025 chipset available to make cheapo AM3+ Board but no 880G and SB850

Last time I've checked, in the dreadful 760G/SB710 category the Giga GA-78LMT-USB3 looked half decent. Still, it's a lousy 4+1 board, but at least it has vrm sinks, 4 ram slots, 125w support and usb3.

This is about the best you can get for a new mobo. The only alternative is a used asus M5A88-M, which has the 880G/850 combo, supports up to 140W cpu,.

What I don't understand is why there are so many more 760G boards than 880G boards.760G is much older than the 880G. DId amd make many more 760g chips than 880g chips?

With similar specs to that Asus M5A88-M (880G/SB850, 4 mem slots, 140W but no vrm sink), there's also the GA-880GMA-USB3 and 890GM Pro3 (890GX/SB850).
The only other 800 series 140W sinked mATX I remember is the Biostar TA890GXE, but it's AM3 only.

I'd bet AMD still sells (or even makes) 760G/SB710 dirt cheap, and after fm1/fm2 there should be almost no market for mid-priced mATX AM3+ boards with the current (albeit rebranded) 980G.
I miss stuff like the LP Jr. 790GX-M3H5, but right now only the blue side gets it.

You are right about DFI. Their matx boards were minature versions of their atx boards, and not just cut down versions like other manufacters, I hope one day DFI will decide to renter the market. Acutally, if they did and just concentrated on matx they could lock up that market segment.

I know , but why 880G + SB850 is better (more modern spec IMHO) is no longer available but crappy outdated 760G still have piles to make mainboard.

Just notice Biostar have another model board that support AM3+
    http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en<br ...?S_ID=627#spec

    A960D+
2x DIMM Support up to 125W TDP CPU (AM3/AM3+)
    D-Sub + DVI out

But other than this , it's lack of USB port and don't even mention USB 3.0 ....

    How about those two:

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/880GMHU3S3/

And this MSI support almost all FX CPU-s (but she needs a BIOS update for the FX-8350, because FX-8320 and the FX-8150 are supported):

    I didn't point that A960D+, because it's worse than either the M5A88-M, GA-880GMA-USB3 and 890GM Pro3 due to mem 2 slots, 760G/SB710, no usb3, 140W support and only 3+1. For a 125W 760G, the GA-78LMT-USB3 has more features (4+1 with sinks, usb3, 4 mem slots, and it's quite cheap).
The 880GMH/U3S3 has a 880G, but only features a SB710 and no 140W support unlike the previous listed 800s.

Good call on the 890GXM-G65, when I checked their site was down. That's the first 140W AM3+ MB with vrm sinks I've seen, and two 16x slots albeit no current FX6300/FX8350 support.
Still, I'd have some caution with MSI mATX MBs for OC, as they seem quite prone to failure with a x6 if this list is anything to be trusted. link

The new MSI 890GXM-G65 comes with the black socket, so it looks nicer too.

I would not do a uber-overclock on that board, but 4GHz @ 1.2V-1.25V could be easy handled by her VRM.
