All is not lost though, they can still make this launch better, just lower the price about $50, and most people will be OK with it.

Yeah, wait 4-6 weeks and the price will drop pretty quick I suspect.

This is more than GF messing up. You can blame power consumption partly on that, but there's far more to this than an unoptimized process...

First time I've considered buying a manufacturer's older products over their "new" ones.

Lets watch this again for a good laugh:

God damn I don't know what to feel right now... pity or indignation. I could have had a 2600k a year ago! But apparently I got suckered in like a lot of folks did; oh well I guess Intel is going to have a good quarter this year after all.

edit: any update on when these will be available?

    newegg stocking them yet?

    Meh

Some benchmarks utilising a lot of threads do show some promise though, overclocking seems to be fun as well, but not much else.

Just saw this quote in your review:
"As we have said in the past, AMD are known for making cool-running processors, and our FX-8150 sample was be no different. Despite its eight highly-clocked cores with a total of over 2 billion transistors, we couldn't even get the processor to hit 50°C. For comparison sake, it runs about 5C hotter than our Phenom II X4 980"

By law of physics, assuming you have exact heat dissipation on systems under test, the higher power consuming system will show higher temperature. Of course this will not be the case if the temperature reading devices is faulty or being inaccurate. And it is also depending on the measurement location variation.

Square Enix and Codemasters should sue for defamation after having their games associated with this "EPIC" product.

This is very unsettling overall, what have they spent the last 5+ years doing?

It does indeed appear that IPC has gone down, significantly.

Im very disappointed, this cpu does not deserve the FX name. Its been 5 years since AMD lost the performance crown and it still cannot catch up

Lastly before I go to sleep, what worries me now as a consumer is where this will take AMD in the future. If this level of performance is anywhere similar in the server space, and somehow Interlagos is no faster than MC at 90% of the tests, then AMD will be in deep trouble and have a very hard time trying not to lose every grip of market share. Piledriver will need to pull a miracle in order to put AMD at a competitive position again and until it comes, I can only see this company slipping further and further into obsolescence in the desktop and workstation segment. I can only guess but I believe AMD cannot survive by being competitive on the mobile segment alone.

    Good night.

Remember when it was posted that this was going to be called the FX processor and would be called AMD return to glory.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...r+FX+processor

It shows how overly nostalgic the AMD fanboys were to simply get hyped at a name. I feel Pity for AMD, but not for their fanboys. Nonetheless AMD however should have not dug their own grave with the hyping spree and their recent benchmarks results with bulldozers makes them out to be liars. The first step for the fans towards eating their share of crow lays in apologizing to ro505 for doing people a favor. The only fabrication this time was done by AMD. Really, to be slower than t1100 in many cases is an embarrassment.

That Bulldozer trailer is a joke and this processor makes netburst look great. Atleast netburst consistently improved speed over its predecessor.
