The king of deneb tastes ln2

    Oh, dramatic title isn't it
This cpu isn't the best around but it is AMD's top of the line 4 core cpu, the Phenom II X4 980.

    Rig spec
    • Phenom II X4 980 BE 1041EPB (very common stepping for 980)
    • ASUS Crosshair III Formula @ bios 1602
    • Corsair Dominator GT 1600 cl6
    • In-Win Commander 1500W
    • Dimastech Benchtable Easy
    • F1 EE
This is my 5th Phenom II cpu and they've been clocking better for every time. First X2 550BE with lousy c2 stepping but unlocked to x3. Max clock 5 GHz on dice. Then x4 965 early c3 stepping which did 5,5Ghz on dice. Then two x2 555 three-letter cpus (1046) of which one unlocked to x4 and both did clock another 200MHz better than the 965 on air. Finally, the x4 980 BE.

    It's a good air clocker, 20 C room temp:

So, naturally I had to test it on ln2.

I did some errors when taking screenshots, I often forgot to change to the right core in cpuz (Core #1 was the best). This one bothers me

I am happy with the results but very sad when I realize that this is the best amd can offer. Bulldozer... No I don't want to speak about it

Impressive 2D performance all around. Tight Pi and high clocks, awesome! The Crosshair III Formula is still the performance king.

Hehe no Crosshair III doesn't show correct volt in cpu-z. Vcore were at about 1.9 for valid, 1.8-1.85 for benchmarks.
Btw I found this on my hdd today, I knew I ran wp32m over 6,4!

I aimed for "safe" performance, and with Ch III that is good enough. I know I can shave off a few seconds in pi32m with fsb of 280+ but sometimes you have to appreciate a bench session without problems Didn't have a single "not exact in round", just set clocks/timings/waza and go.
