Looks like we'll get some X79 news the same week as Bulldozer news. A little water on the fire from Intel and partners. These boards are compelling. Intel will have to charge a LOT of money to make 990fx look better.

There were more pics on xfastest up until a few hours ago including one of the back panel I/O ports:

Despite the current trend of "moar is better" I'd like to implore (if it's not to late) the team responsible for the ROG board to not make every single rear USB port a 3.0 one like on MIVE.

For input devices lower latency would be much preferred to sustained transfer speed. With that in mind I speculate running something like this:

USB 3.0 port -> USB hub controller -> 3rd party USB 3.0 controller -> integrated PCIe controller (southbridge)

    produces higher latency than:

USB 2.0 port -> integrated USB 2.0 controller (southbridge)

Some might say that the difference is negligible but pro gamers used to overclock USB ports in the not so distant past. There's all sorts of potential customers (with OCD) who'd prefer the latter option so please take them (me! me! me!) into consideration.

Stick it in a beige box and it'll be fine, you'll never have to look at it

Are there any confirmed release dates for X79 motherboards? Everywhere i see says Q4 2011 but nothing more definitive.

Also the Ivy Bridge CPU's? any word on those?

The color and the design of the heatsinks are beyond horrible. I hope specs are better than the looks.

It's partially common sense. You're adding one more component. It really depends on how the PCH juggles USB 2.0 ports & PCI-E 2.0 lanes as well as the latency induced by the USB 3.0 controller.

not even a little bit... you can get virtually anything on PCI-E now. heck you can even get serial port cards in PCI-E

as for the boar itself it looks really really nice from a feature standpoint... and it takes allot of steps in the right direction (no PCI no PS2 are some of the welcome changes IMO) for colors they are not the best ever but not terrible IMO. way better than those Gigabyte boards we had up until 1155 and nothing that I would not put in my own system with a window.
