Windows Live Gallery for gadgets has been retired.

Sorry if this is a repost, I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything.

Well yesterday I was looking for a specific gadget to add to my W7 desktop.
A couple of searches ended up bringing me back to this MS webpage...
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ng-for-gadgets

The Windows Live Gallery has been retired. In order to focus support on the much richer set of opportunities available for the newest version of Windows, Microsoft is no longer supporting development or uploading of new Gadgets. However, some of the most popular and highest-rated gadgets are still available on the Gadgets page of the Windows Personalization Gallery.
They've kept a handful of the most popular gadgets but the rest are gone...

Luckily I was able to find the gadget I wanted hosted on another website, others might not be so lucky.

I'm really disappointed in this whole project.
The gadgets that Microsoft could have developed could have provided so much utility but it always seemed like a red headed step child.
They continued to call the gadgets for Vista and not W7.
The gadgets for the most part were not comprehensive. The search engine was absolutely terrible, if you wanted to find a specific gadget you were better off scrolling through all of them.

Now they've moved them on to W8. Why can't they keep gadgets in some form for W8?

I like them as well. I have two screens, therefore i feel like i utilize them more than other users would, but still there could be so much more.

Exactly. Finding what you wanted was IMPOSSIBLE. You had to scroll through the bloody lot of them.

I did like the few gadgets I used though. I'll miss them.

W8 is not out yet. Why would they retire any part that supports Vista and W7?
that is way to early. why would anybody develop for W8 if it is clear that there are no intentions for retention
