Thrustmaster releases a genuine replica of the ferrari 150° italia racing wheel

London, 29 September 2011 — As the Formula Racing season hurtles into the final straight, Thrustmaster invites the T500 RS simracing community to join the Formula 1 team paddocks with the release of the Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On!

With the Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On, T500 RS owners can now enter the world of the ultimate automotive racing challenge: Formula 1! The temperature is rising fast as the championship enters the final stretch and Codemasters® releases the game Formula 1 2011.

The Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On is a removable, life-size replica of the racing wheel that equips the Ferrari 150° Italia. Designed to attach to T500 RS (*) wheel base, it offers the power and precision that make this racing wheel such a unique experience. The Thrustmaster Quick Release attachment system enables users to easily attach the wheel face to the T500 RS base, in just a few seconds. This innovating concept lets all RS Series wheel base owners to invest in racing wheels alone to enjoy optimum realism in all types of races.

The Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On features a scratch-brushed reinforced metal facing ensuring optimum solidity and inertia, scratch-brushed metal F1 Push & Pull sequential shifters directly attached to the wheel in true F1 tradition, and rubber-textured grips.

The extensive built-in equipment – rotary knobs, switches and action buttons – boasts professional quality, enabling each driver to make precision adjustments according to his own racing style and the conditions on the track. The racing wheel offers no less than two rotary encoder switches (allowing direct, on-the-track optimization of the car's race settings), eight push-buttons (with a 6.5 N dual-detent pressure), three 4.5 N metal switches offering 3 positions and an automatic centering feature, two 2.5 N 8-directional D-Pads and two up/down shifters.

When it comes to system compatibility, 2 game modes are available: a PC & PS3™-compatible Normal mode (offering 13 action buttons and 3 D-Pads, i.e. 17 programmable functions) and an Advanced PC-compatible mode (offering 25 action buttons and 1 D-Pad, i.e. 29 programmable functions)......

    Why ?

What possible game is going to support this wheel. I doubt even the new F1 2011 will support 1/2 these buttons.

It doesn't have to because the only two working rotary encoders are the top ones (labeled DIF IN & CHRG), the other ones are just moulded plastic. It's literally just a toy not intended for serious sim racing (which F1 2011 isn't, btw).

Hehe, out of context. Im not saying that every man on earth that wears a red shirt must work for Ferrari, but in Formula one, red is well known as ferrari.

I agree that is a shame that the center rotaries are not real, but you have to agree that 25 usable buttons is not to bad, as for being a toy, I don't know but the T500 where this is supposed to be attached seems to be a serious sim racing wheel... and as with a Logitech g27 or Fanatec wheels, some people buy it to play NFS, some the more hardcore games/sims...
I saw a lot of DIY F1 wheels being used by "serious sim racers"

it must work perfectly with LFS, as with any other PC game/sim...

Man they look uninterested in holding that damn wheel. Massa is trying to walk out as the picture is getting taken. Nice Tag on his wrist though. Looks like an $80k monaco. Nice to be rich.

lol all this red talk reminds me on Clarkson's take on buying a Ferrari: "Yes, I'll take it in gree.....Red" Either way though for badge toy this looks rather subdued, and lots of buttons in finger reach are always good.

Thrustmasters wheels are nice, but they can't be compared to Logi's G2x and Fanatec wheels. Heck, even the G27 feels like a toddler toy compared to what Fanatec offers today. I have a G27 slightly modded by Frex and modded A LOT by myself and even then the Fanatec GT2 I recently bought is light years ahead of it, there's simply no comparisson.

I also got the Clubsport pedals set from Fanatec and even the G27 nice pedals set looks and feels like a Fisher-Price toy compared to it. I've used hidraulics stuff from ECCI and Frex and the Fanatec set feels great considering it sells from a fraction of the price of those "pro" sim gear.

Most racing sims will support this wheel.

Looks too cheap to get my money and the exclusion of a digital display is another disappointment.
