No because they had locked multi, so atleast you got a higher multi. 2600k and 2700k is unlocked so unless max multi on 2700k is higher than 2600k there will not be much of a difference between the 2.

Odds are it will just replace the SKU entirely and will come with 1 higher stock multiplier/turbo multiplier and sell for the same amount as the 2600k.

How much voltage does it take for you to hit 5Ghz?

No new stepping. What's the difference between 2600K and 2700K from an overclocker's point of view?

The BIGGEST Question is: Do we get 5Ghz( 24/7 Prime95 stable) guaranteed with 2700K @ high end air ?

    Please, someone test this sucker.

I don't think you understand just what an amazing upgrade that is!
People will speak of this for years to come, songs will be written about the glory of the 2700k.

Now that that's done, let me join you in >_<

At least it's cheaper than an E3 1280, lol.

So what's the marketing scheme behind this? We saw this with the i7 980 -> i7 990 and many other cpus... is this just a stop gap profit generator for intel (since they know that they could even sell a 4ghz i7 3200 w/ stock voltage). I always wonder if this type of "upgraded" high end cpu is always planned and decided upon about half way through the current gen lifespan when stable 24/7 OCs are well known and how AMD is doing. I'd have figured maybe an i7 2800 and maybe one more chip to beat AMD (above 3.6ghz).

Sorry for the thinking-out-loud commentary.... carry on!
    You must [not] advance.

with Svid bios, you set 4.5ghz and auto for all, and your cpu is stable ...

    100mhz more, what a shame.

Price wise i7-2700K should also replace i7-2600K, making its price ~$317.
Directly taken from the anandtech article. While I don't think this is a particularly useful move, at the very least it's not like Intel is actually charging more than the current rate for a 2600k. Kinda like how AMD continued releasing Thubans with higher clockspeed and bumping down the prices of the rest of their lots. IMO I could really care less about this, seems like standard practice

Except that AMD does the exact same thing with PII X4 965, 970, 975, 980...
So no its got nothing to do with Intels Marketshare that they get away with those tiny speed increases.

No standard pratice of intels for over a decade now..

If intel introduces a new model it usually replaces the old model in the same bracket, or all other model drop down a price bracket. For Extreme CPUs it usually was a replacement, 980X was 999$, 990X came also for 999$ and 980X was phased out (still available). 2700K seems the same to be the same as extreme cpu, replacement. Won't be suprised if we see that the 2600K gets phased out (2600S and 2600 still remain).

Selling in Japan from today 28,000 yen. The 2600K is going for 25,000 yen, that about $25 less

Yeah some people thought Intel had raised prices, but they hadn't. The retailers have upped the prices because Bulldozer isn't strong enough and all the people that waited have decided to buy now because they know Ivy Bridge is months away. Surge in demand, and new chip premium I'm afraid.
