I could never get interested in even trying Borderlands. IMO the absolute WORST thing to do in such a setting is ruin any sense of immersion with cartoonish Prince of Persia graphics and Serious Sam style arcade action. I am still to this day pondering, what's the point, and why so much mass appeal to this game?

the graphics are great they are stylized not cartoonish. you have a choice when you want something to work on a console, you can make it "realistic" were it is laggy and pixelated but dose not look real at all, or you can go semi cell shaded style like this or fallout3/nv, halo and make it look better by not needing to make it look real but look like how it wants to look with memory the memory and gpu constraints. also you are fighting monsters and armor suits for most of the time so its not like making it realistic would matter much as they do not exist and that would make it like metro 2033 so it would not run on most computers well and no consoles.

IMO, there is nothing worse than a game that trys to be realistic but cannot like crysis or fallout2 or blackops that they cannot do it but it looks kinda real making it look worse than if they made it a little stylized the games graphical faults.

its a fun game and looks great, cell shading has many purposes for stylizing.

however the multiplayer video makes it look identical to the first one and i want to see new stuff.

Cell shaded, stylized, animated, take your pick. In the end they still look more, em, cartoonish vs real life, I think you get what I mean. As for making good graphics work on a console, Crysis 2 does a FAR better job of it without degrading it to a feel like you're inside an animated world. You also picked one of the most extreme examples of graphics in Metro 2033 to compare it to, yet even IT came out on 360, and Last Light is slated for ALL major consoles.

I can think of much better arguments than difficulty putting it on console, like just preferring a "stylized" PoP look. After all, there are TONS of people into Anime for instance. Just not my thing. After all is said and done, it's really just another gimmick to avoid having to do lots of optimizing to make production cheap and easy.

i thought that crysis2 looked terrible on pc and even worse on the console, the characters are even cell shaded on that so i dont think its your best example. but just take a look at something cartoonish in the last gen like ratchet and clank or jak or wow, then take a look at something realistic like guild wars, CSS/HL2 (unmoded), black or the dot hack quadrilogy. the cartoonish ones aged well and the more realistic ones did not. i guess it comes down to what the player wants though, but i would give borderlands a chance since its cheap and one of the best shooters in the UT3 wasteland.

Well obviously it didn't look as good as original Crysis, but is very well optimized for what it offers and I still think it's a good example considering the graphical content it has and that even games like Metro 2033 looked pretty on PC, but horrible on 360. As far as cell shaded models though, where's your source for that claim? From what I've read there have only been mods to make C2 and even original Crysis LOOK cell shaded.

As far as the potential of CryENGINE 3 though, there have already been modded screenshots of C2 posted here showing just how good it can look when you tweak it a bit, and even stock it looks better than most games. One of the better examples of great graphics on a large scale with no loading screens and small file size is Just Cause 2. It's pretty much the polar opposite of RAGE.

rpg elements sounds like you cause an enemy to gain a weakness to a certain type of damage, then use that against him. which i like since i remember the first one seemed like you just used the best weapon, and not the best weapon for the job.

cant wait. i dont mind the graphic direction borderlands took.
its in a way, refreshing from the ultra-realistic take on most high-end games

As flawed as the first game was I still sunk a huge amount of time into it and it took a long time for it to get stale for me. Considering there was a lot I felt that could be done to further improve the experiance, I am optimistic about the sequel.

I have been playing Diablo3 here and there but I'm somewhat at a crossroads where I am not sure *why* I am playing it. If you have to ask yourself *why* you are *playing* a *game*, there is a problem. I kept playing Borderlands because it was actually fun and had some great charm and humor to it and the progression of the rpg elements was fairly reasonable.

I'd personally hope to see some more endgame content in BL2 as I felt the first was lacking here. Generally once you maxed out a character and found a few half decent weapons there was nothing more to do appart from collecting better items to make the game even easier. At least you can get to a point where you feel truly powerful and badass. I had lilith decked out in level 69 gear and she melts faces, literally, with no effort.

That's because Lilith was so IMBA Try soloing Crawmerax as other classes.

I've been to a hands-on demo yesterday. Had a whole 25 minutes to play, which I wasted trying to aim on an Xbox pad... yes, the publisher chose to demo the game on laptops with xbox pads connected
If anyone is expecting major changes, don't be. It's Borderlands, just fixed and more of it - just like the trailer says. Which is good of course

BTW, for anyone who hasn't seen this yet, here's a Love Letter from Claptrap to PC.
