Valve announces counter-strike: Global offensive (cs: Go)

    http://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=1800

Next Gen Console, PC, and Mac Release Targeted for Early 2012

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).

Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo 2011.

if they change dust then i dunno..... good news for sure. Come to think of it Valve is going to have a pretty good lock down on the competitive gaming scene for the next little while with dota 2 and all.

I really pleased about this. The PC has needed something to merge the CSS and CS 1.6 groups together. From what ive read from the early builds, they are taking parts of 1.6 and css for it.

New weapons, some new nades and no doubt placed on an up to date version of the source engine.

Not to mention the fans favourite maps, some changes to some of them like dust to make it better in a 5v5 environment). There is also two game modes 1 for competative play and one for casuals. Add in servers and you should have one of the biggest games out for 2012.

If they get rid of that flicking to kill people with AWP's and Scouts without using the scope at 100 yards, i'm going to be sold on it.

im not sure on this, making a console port of CSS i dont think will work as when they changing it from 100tic native from the HL2 engine to the 66tic native console TF2 engine the game suffered and its not at a point that i would call unplayable, if they make it go even more to the consoles then i cannot see this doing anything but pushing people to 1.6 even more.

thats the point of those weapons, its just that cheaters ruin them and vac dose nothing (not that cheaters wont ruin any weapon)

Hmm, DOTA2 and CS:GO both 5v5. In any case, as Hipno said, they are going to have quite an iron grip on the competitive gaming scene for the next few years at the least.

You are mistaken, default tickrate that H-L2 and Source networking were designed for was 33. 100 was popular because it was the highest value that was distinguishably better from 66/75 and an average server had enough performance to run it. When they moved CS:S to TF2 Source build the default tick was increased from 33 to 66, but the option to increase manually to 100 was broken.

the default was 20 on HL2 source but the native engine response was for 100 for unit movement and physics to be tracked 1 to 1. u can still change tf2 source to 100+ but it makes it run tenable as the mapping speeds and interpolation was changed.

It's valve... I'm expecting the same as usual.

Same game everyone was playing 12 years ago, same engine they've been using for 6 years now, with maybe 2-4 new things added. I've pretty much lost all faith in valve as a company some time ago. I literally refuse to even use steam, and haven't bought a valve title since HL2. I'll try out a buddy's copy, like usual, and probably never touch it again.

At least there will be wallbangs and we will see actions like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkb_RSvtkUA
I hope that this game will be different from cs:source, and more skill demanding like 1.6

at first I'm excited because CS is a golden classic. but then I realize the name is fruity (CS GO?), the development is outsourced to another company, and it will be for Xbox Live. So there is a fruity new console CS not made by Valve. Great. I still hope for the best. I'm just skeptical.

how was 1.6 more "skill demanding", that or CSS is to broken is what seams to be the cry of any1 not good at source. and i hope that u cannot shoot people through walls as it only helps to further enable cheaters like no scope high accuracy 1 hit body kills and the changes with smoke and flash nades made in tf2 nerf.

Professional 1.6 players from Brazil and US, who played source in the CGS said said the same years ago. And they were at the top in both games.
It is much more easier to control the recoil in css, easier to flash your enemies, bullets don't slow you down. There are much more tricks you can do in 1.6 with the flashbangs, jumps and shooting, but it demands a lot of skill.
