Exclamation how to make i-RAM play nice with ICH10R?

have a i-RAM here.. would like to use it with my rig (asus sabertooth x58). everytime I plug it in, disk manager sees it, asks to format it, & then 'loses' it - the device gets dropped. its still visible in device manager, but not disk management.

    what gives??

edit: ICH10R is in ACHI mode, if that helps..
