Red face I caved... Quad GTX 580 UD with new AC waterblocks.. New 990X and new 1500W PSU

I'd been mulling over for a while trying to decide if i should wait for next gen GPU's and CPU's..

Well I cracked... I have 4 new Gigabyte GTX 580 UDs in my possession and have ordered Aquacomputer blocks and SLI bridge and new 990X CPU to go with it.
Oh and some MDPC sleeving to finally finish the system.

    EDIT:19-8-11 Updated list and pics

Of course the poor old coolermaster 1250 PSU isnt up to the task with these (it keeps doing overload shutdowns) so Ive had to order a new Enermax 1500W PSU.
As a temporary work around I've installed another 1200W supply into the MM case and it now runs 3 cards and the second UD9 MB pcie 12v connector and its mostly stable with the other supply doing accessories MB and CPU and 1 GPU. It gets through 3Dmark11 Performance settings but not Extreme and cant finish vantage without tripping overload either even with 2 1200W PSUs!
The individual rails on my 1200s are only good for 20A which explains it. They are operating right on the edge with max CPU overclock and 4 580s in benching.

Ive gone with TWO Enermax 1500's as they have 125A over 6 rails (30A each) for a total power of 1500W for GPU/CPU 12v rails as apposed to the Silverstone strider that can only do 110A (25A each) over 8 rails and max 1300W for 12v rails. The Enermax has also got some pretty tight regulation according to the couple reviews i found.

I cant believe how much power these cards draw and how much heat they generate in an SLI config. 100c on the first card without secondary active cooling, 70c on the 4th.
Ive hooked up a workable temporary solution with a 120 fan mounted above them sucking air up and another 120 blowing cooler in from the back of the cards. Dropped temps to ~70c under load for all cards at stock 795/2000.
I wasn't going to WC these so i could sell them off in a few months but they just get too hot and noisy and the performance is just amazing!

Crysis 2 DX11 ultra pack rocks with these cards.. hows minimum 100FPS with maxed out settings sound?

    Ill post some pics soon...
    Here's what they'll look like!

Did an inventory of the Koolance bits today... Tadah!

Quick disconnects, Ill probably be moving most of these away from the MB and GPU's to the Rads and Res now instead, to keep the Mboard looking cleaner. See if I like it or not.

The ramplex manifolds I made I may use, and other manifold bit n pieces... or I may just use the extendable 180o at the back right and do a more simple serial setup for the ram blocks.

Various Adapters, swivel joiners, extendable joiners, and plugs...

Wow bitter much, zeropluszero? Why even bother posting, considering you add zero substance to this thread?

phatboy - awesome getup. I'm considering the AC blocks for both my 580s.

Enjoy realizing UD cards aren't reference.

Also, thinly veiled "look how much money I have!" thread
You sound pretty Jealous and add nothing constructive to a thread like many of your other posts around the liquid cooling forum.

Nice hardware Phatboy, lets not hope the new 7XXX arent too good!

Well his name is about adding nothing...

Haha on 7xxx, I don't think we'll see high end this year to be honest. The folks in the "confirmed" thread are really being optimistic.

But yeah, I just got my 580s a few months ago and already find myself in that unpleasant middle ground of "I hope the next cards aren't great but I also hope they are!!"

    Oh well
Here's the proof its a reference based design with custom PCB and upgraded components. I did the research carefully and this is currently one of the best overclocking cards on the market which is why i chose it over a reference design. Read about half way down and you can see naked PCB of a 570 OC which is the same board used for the 580 UD. There were other references I found around the place too that its a nvidia reference layout with upgraded PCB and components.

The Gigabyte 580 OC uses a different layout though with more power phases, designed for the LN2 crews!

EK have also formally approved their standard GTX580+ blocks for this board too! (I decided I like the cleaner look of AC for this upgrade!)

Yep very much how I am feeling, though I can now wait until well after IVY Bridge and 7XXX / 6XX before I have to worry about upgrading again. Ive got the best components of this generation of hardware.

With those four GTX 580's you'll be able to play all the latest games at maximum settings so personally I wouldn't even consider the 7xxx series as something needing to wait for. If we had a 'Crysis' type game on our hands where everyone was trying to get good frame rates and IQ with even the latest cards then I'd say wait but such a game does not currently exist. This may actually be the first time in PC Gaming where we actually have more GPU power available on the market than the games are leveraging. Kinda sad :P

Your build is using great hardware I'm looking forward to seeing it come together

Why not go for MSI Lightning Extremes?

Pretty sure they were the best of the best in the 580s?

EDIT: Forgot nobody has made a block for the monster PCB my bad >.<

Just curious if Nvidia drivers allow you to setup Quad-SLI in that configuration? I know you can do Quad-SLI with two GTX590's, but I didn't think it would run 4 x single GTX580's. It looks like it will be a massive build and I am looking forward to the pics.

Yep it absolutely lets you do quad 580s... with a quad enabled motherboard. The UD9 has not 1, but 2 Nvidia Nforce 200 chips for full 4 x 16 lanes PCIE for Quadfire and Quadsli.

Niicce The Aqua blocks and sli connector rock, you shouldn't have trouble with your mahoosive case, but I was limited with the psu below my quad setup albeit only GTX470's

But the nice thing about the Aqua sli connector is you can move the cards up or down and it still fits

I like the lighting on your build! Congrats on the nice GPU setup. I have five 580s but spread in two builds since, unlike you, I do not have the Kung Fu grip that will not slip
