    Reference 5870 cooler

    Hi all,

The reference cooler on my 5870 has been making noise for a very long time.

When its cool, it will make noise on start up. Noise goes away after the card heats up 40c+.

It has been doing this for over a year and has not gotten worse. It is however extremely ANNOYING.

Fix with oil? I thought oil impregnated brass should not be lubed up.

New reference cooler/fan, where do I buy?

    ty!

Could be a variety of things. From dust in the bearing to it drying up. Or even the bearing failing which means it would need to be replaced.

A bit of oil in the bearing wont hurt and if it cures/helps then we know its something to do with the bearing and not something else.
