At that price, an 8GB DIMM has about 200% extra cost margin on top of 2x4GB. So 2x4GB is about $55, and 1x8GB is about $165. A healthy premium that ADATA deserves until other manufacturers pick up the slack and catch up with competitive products.

If the 8 Gb kits (2x4) get any cheaper they'll be including them in cereal boxes :p. It may be a little bit before the higher-density modules get to that point though .

There is no reason for this ram to be more expensive than 8gb reg ecc (uses an extra 9th chip for each 8 chips, plus registration IC) of the same ratings. Adata is just price gouging.

Yep. I recently upgraded my ram to 4x4gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz ram and paid a super low price of $128. In contrast, I remember it costing $1,000 for a full 1mb RAM for an Apple IIgs. hehe. The memory board was about the size of a GTX580 PCB.

ITS JUST TO CHEAP NOT TO.......

thats 16GB for $100, thats less then a good night out with some of the lads, a curry and a few beers!!!!

I'm still using 3x2GB DIMMs, lol. And I don't see much need to upgrade...
By the time I need to, though, I bet 4GB DIMMs will be dirt cheap, and 8GB ones will be more reasonably priced. Yay for tech advancements!

The price for this kit is nuts. 2x8gb 1333 ECC kits can be had for $100 less than this kit. Heck, I have 16gb dimms that cost less than these.

I have 4x4gb 1600gb kit in my desktop and even with tons of multitasking while gaming, I've only broken 6gb with real world gaming/multitasking.

Thats about 99.9% of the people who use this site, your question is?

I think my point was pretty clear.

Edit: Oh, and several posts already reject your theory that 99.9% will pay anything just to have it. It seems that people here, including you, are interesting in acquiring memory at as low of a price as possible.

Well we now have to get into the argument of how much RAM your PC needs, 4, 8, 16 or even 32GBs?

Does having 16GBs or ram in 2*8GB stickas make a difference over 2*4GB or even 3*4GBs, thats the next question! The Law of Diminision Returns must come into it.

Well since I can not hear my baby son screaming, its time for me to go to sleep, its 01.15 here, good night to you all and sweet dreams.

    Depends on what you're using them for. I want 4 x 8GB.
    Main Machine:
    AMD FX8350 @ stock --- 16 GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz --- Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 --- 2.0 TB Seagate

    Miscellaneous Workstations for Code-Testing:
    Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.0 GHz --- 32 GB DDR3 @ 1866 MHz --- Asus Z87-Plus --- 1.5 TB (boot) --- 4 x 1 TB + 4 x 2 TB (swap)

Does ECC have that much overhead that min fps would take a nose dive? 2x8gb ECC kits are cheap and I believe AMD supports ECC for AM3+ (and earlier). 16gbdimms are still cheaper if you know where to look and still fall into the 1.5v range for ram.

I'm hoarding cheap 16gb ecc sticks as ZFS raid uses as much ram as you can feed it. Along with mutiple VMs, I can actually justify 64gb. 1155 socket server boards also only have 4 dimm slots, so the only way to break away from 32gb total is to buy 16gb dimms. 64gb was only a pipe dream for me till I could locate affordable 16gb dimms.

These should drop to $200. That's a "fair" price for this kit. $325 is more in the range of 1866/2133 2x8gb kits for "fair" pricing.

If your buying this ram its for more than 16gb of ram (if not then just buy 4/6 4gb sticks), so 32 or 48gb ram...
Now my question: when do you "need"/want to use ECC? 32/48GB ram is starting to be quite an amount...
