A64 X2 4200+....... last 50 MHz and uneven core temps (help please!)

    Hello!

I need help, please, getting my cpu to 3GHz stable. Currently at 2.97GHz a bit unstable.

Also, the difference between core temps at idle is about 8-9C (currently 27 and 35C). Thought they would even out after lapping cpu and heatsink and pea method thermal paste application, but didn’t help at all.

    My rig is:

    Athlon64 X2 4200+ s939,
Scythe Ninja Plus rev. B cooler with few 120mm high cfm fans
    ASROCK 939Dual-Sata2,
    2x1GB Kingston VR DDR400,
    ATi HD4850,
    Tagan SuperRock 680W.

    Things I've done so far:

    - Upgraded to last BIOS version,
    - Vcore mod for 1.55V (Vdimm not needed),
    - Properly applied Noctua's thermal paste (pea method),
    - Lapped cpu and heatsink with 1200 grit,
    - Added heatspreaders and thermal paste on memory (though don't think it's necessary),
    - Currently all hardware is out of the case until I finish my case mod.

This is just a guess, since i don't use socket 939 for years now since the time of my opteron 144, but maybe you it fsb wall for that multi.

Also your board might be the problem too... I had one asus a8n vanilla and with that one i could get ~315mhz fsb with 9x multi. Later on i got one DFI Lanparty NF4 and i could get ~335mhz fsb with that one.

Try lowering the multi from 11x to 10x or 9x and see if you can get more fsb from it with the lower multi.

I just tried 10x290 and it works just fine. Gonna go see how this goes...

Hmm... wouldn't boot with 10x300. Maybe my DDR400 cas 2.5 ram is the problem since now at 10x295 it's at 246Mhz (cas 3 atm).

Any suggestions for a 939 mobo which can handle 300+ mhz fsb (beside already mentioned ones)?

    Thanks!
