Now the major problem with the card. When it was sent to us, no real guidance was included and with a new technology that is said to offer a hybrid pairing of competing cards, you'd assume that some form of instruction would be included. After many hours of testing and installation, it was apparent that a problem was present and that we weren't alone as other partner sites were facing the same issues. We have been told that this is a drive issue and once again is something that HIS are looking into with the help of LucidLogix and AMD but we can assure you that when this is finally working, we will take a look at the performance of the HIS Radeon HD 6970 IceQ MIX being paired with a GeForce GTX 580, and yes, you did just read that right.
    just plain lol.

    ^ lol. Awesomesauce.

It is a nice concept though and it will be nice to see them on shelves... when they get them working properly. And a decent review too, actually. The author had a few qualms with the card and didn't mind speaking up about them, and that always makes me a fan. Plus it actually makes me appreciate the good that was said in the review more, because I tend to believe it wasn't just being said to make the vendor happy.

Interesting thought, but what about memory buffer differences for the cards? For example would a 1.5gb nV card hold a 2GB AMD card back in performance?

I considered this which is why I chose the MSI GTX Lightening 3GB XE to pair it up so there would be no restrictions on the HD6970 2GB. Obviously nobody in their right mind will purchase that card to pair up with the HD6970 but it was just to show it is possible, the technology works (in a fashion) and tbth I didn't have any older hardware to use at the time of reviewing.

good question, but as PhysX is locked on driver if it detect an AMD card... will be hard, and if it's nvidia driver and not PhysX one, Nvidia will quickly move this to the PhysX driver.
