It's not the storage part holding him back, the bloody memory can't do more ^^
Now - show me how fast you can copy 100GB from/to that array
    P5E64_Evo/QX9650, 4x X25-E SSD - gimme speed..

Now that's impressive! Would like to see random read & write results and details on your setup (# drives each controller; setup (type of raid, or pass-through etc). As well as what you're using for the striping between controllers (dynamic disks?).

I'm getting ~3.5-4GB/s here but with 112 5900rpm drives. What I really need is something faster to act as a read and another as write cache front-ends to the larger storage array. Though I would be using 4KiB block sizes (limitation that you can't have different values for vdevs under zfs).

do bear in mind fellas that much of this is going to be cache speeds.

    'm getting ~3.5-4GB/s here but with 112 5900rpm drives.
    which controllers?

It's in my .sig but a total of 7 LSI2008 chipsets (6 LSI9200-8e and one on-board). each controlling 16 drives, though from what I'm seeing I could put 32 drives per controller due to the drives themselves being the bottleneck and getting more drives. Would have done that but only have a 25U rack so ran out of space.

Yes, though not without $$. I would LOVE to have one of these http://www.quiet-rack.com/ucoustic-active.php but the $7k is allocated for home repairs.
