I don't even know why anyone even links to that bull. The Strontium Hawk / SK Hynix has the same Vantage speed as everything else. He is just testing it with the broken firmware and that is why the performance is down. I mean really, everyone knows by now that SandForce performance in nearly all tests is based on firmware more than anything else. With that said, how is it possible to show performance so vast across so many drives. It isn't possible unless you are actually testing different enviroments, drivers and motherboards.

So much for his exclusive, mine is going up on Monday and I did the right thing and waited on proper firmware. There is no sense in testing a drive when it is broke if you aren't going to call it broke.

Anyone still using PCMark Vantage instead of PCMark 7 is on shakey ground to make such criticism. PCMark 7 is not a great test itself, but it is significantly more realistic and accurate for most usage than Vantage.

I almost don't even want to read any more SF MLC drive reviews...my mouth is still watering at the thought of a SF2281 w/ SLC. Two 60's in r0 and I'd be content for the foreseeable future...the ultimate solution for a fast AND affordable raid array. Sure they'll cost more but hell, it can't be any worse than what I paid for the first of my V2 50's...$200+.

Yes, because people really give a about how fast you can transfer photos from a USB 2.0 thumb drive to an SSD

Vantage is what I'm sticking with until my own trace based tests are ready or PCMark for Win 8 is ready / working as I need it to be. Computurd, Bill Gates and myself were at Futuremark a couple of weeks ago and the next version will get back to relevant testing.

Good deal. It's nice to know that Futuremark has got a few ssd gurus whispering in their ear.

I would expect nothing better from tweaktown. No doubt it will be even worse with your own trace based tests. Constant disimprovement is par for your course.

And per your usual, talking without anything to show other than being a forum troll. Way to contribute

As I've said before, if you can do it better then go spend your time and money making it happen.

Whine, whine, whine. Who was it who first started criticizing review sites in this thread?

As a reviewer, at least he has room to talk. You on the other hand are too busy trolling to offer up anything worth reading. I didn't think a forum such as this tolerated such childish BS. Surely you must have something better to do? Or maybe not...

As a misguided and inaccurate reviewer, he has very little room to talk, which is what I pointed out earlier.

And giving my opinion on reviews in a thread about reviews is certainly not trolling. Your (and his) post making this personal, on the other hand, fits the definition of trolling rather well. It is ironic that people who are so quick to toss around accusations of trolling are most guilty of it themselves.

I would say I'm the most accurate SSD reviewer there is right now and by a fairly large margin. Feel free to point your finger all you want, I look forward to educating you with facts and the knowledge you can only achieve from working with the engineers who make the magic happen.

And that is what I done, with a pointed stick. You are say what about my reviews exactly? If you have something specific then call it out. To say something so broad is to say nothing at all.

The best SSD reviews I've seen are done by hardware.fr (and English translation at behardware.com). Richard Hart's articles for tomshardware are also good. Tweaktown is middle-of-the-pack, at most.

I've already given specific examples of tweaktowns review issues. Placing so much emphasis on PCMark Vantage is one.

Sad that this post, which criticises someone that takes the time and trouble to post links to reviews and then goes on to rubbish a fellow reviewer and self promote his own web site ends up with Johnw getting banned.

    What the hell?

    My last post on Xtreme.

Wow. Trolling is trolling and against the rules but a straight up ban does seem a little harsh unless there is more to it than meets the eye.
Flaming a mod in PM or previous infractions maybe?

@Ao1...00..Say it isn't so man. I've enjoyed your posting for some time now. Hope to keep seeing more...

Fellas...there is more to the story than what meets the eye, exactly as Zaxx mentions. While I did not handle the issue I can tell you that this wasn't a one-time issue, and did not come without prior warning.

It'd be nice to see more 120GB roundups...in english that is...not a big fan of google translate. As I've ranted about previously, there aren't many reviews that cover the 120/128 drives from various makers cuz vendors only send out 240/256 samples (and some 480/512s) since they yield the best numbers. I'm pretty sure that the 120/128gb drives easily out sell the 240/256 and 60/64gb drives combined. Seems to me that vendors/reviewers would want to highlight their top selling capacity drives even though most do not not utilize all 8 controller channels. Also imo, most ssd 'enthusiasts' would opt to pay a little extra for the blazing speeds of a pair of 120/128s in raid0 vs a single 240/256 drive...or maybe it's just me?

Anyone spotted a review of the 840PRO with fill tests?

A fill tested review may not show up until the 840 Pro becomes available from retailers. As mentioned in another thread, Samsung didn't send samples to reviewers that do fill testing...kinda makes you wonder. They should be hitting stores any time now.
