    What Mobo Do i Need?

guys im just about to upgrade my mobo,

i have a phen 11 1090t and 2x 6970gpu's, basicly i am never going more than 2 gpu cards and i wanted both my cards to run at 2.0 pcie x16 speed am i right in understanding that ud3 mobo i.e Gigabyte 990FX UD3, i can get full speed 16x speed on both cards rather than 16x and 8x om 2nd card like my gig 790fx ud5 does now?

and also im not to hot on mobo's what is the main differnece between ud3/ud4/ud5/ud7 what are actually different on these boards accept the number of gpu card slots? they all have same fsb speeds far as i can see :o

    thanks in advance

Yes 990FX UD3 will run Crossfire and SLI bowth PCI-E 2.0 16x slots running full speed (16x).
UD7 fancy overclocking features, on board reset/power buttons, advanced debug led and 4-way SLI/Crossfire (8x8x8x8x), Tri-SLI/Cf (16x8x8x), SLI/Cf (16x/16x) and is bigger than other boards.
UD5 basicly UD7 with 3-way SLI/CF (16x8x8x), SLI/CF (16x/16x) and no reset/power buttons on board, no advanced debug led and its normal sized atx board.
UD3 basicly UD5 with 2-way SLI/CF (16x/16x) and 2 less SATA, there might be some other small differences.

PWM in all boards is 8+2 phase pwm, UD3 have no Driver Mosfets but UD5 and UD7 have so PWM's design is litlebit different.

    UD3 : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3894#sp Specifications
    UD5 : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3891#sp Specifications
    UD7 : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3880#sp Specifications

So for you, id recommend UD3, how ever you should wait 1-2weeks that all problems in bios's get fixed, fixes SATA, Mouse and other problems with F5 bios soon as it gets released.

    ty

Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 PCI-Express ATX Motherboard im looking at this board atm and cant see why this is not as good as the fx990 it looks the same specs to me.

any reason not to go for this 1?

Black pcb in most Gigabyte 990FX boards, exeption is D3 board.

    Chipset comparsion :
    970A have 1 PCI-E 2.0 16x connector and no possibility to crossfire/sli.
    990X have up to 2 PCI-E 2.0 16x connectors and possibility to 8x/8x crossfire/sli.
    990FX have up to 4 PCI-E 2.0 16x connectors and possibility to 16x/16x SLI/CF, 16x/8x/8x Tri-SLI/CF, 8x/8x/8x/8x Quad-SLI/CF.

Differences of Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 compared to GA-990FXA-UD3
    - Missing 2 x Marvell 88SE9172 chips for E-SATA in backpanel (chips are in 990FXA-UD3)
    - The PCI-E 16x slot operates at up to x8 mode when SLI/CF is enabled (16x/16x in 990FXA-UD3).
    - BluePCB (Black in 990FXA-UD3)

Ill dig more info and edit this post when i find more differences.

whats up mtemel you gonna pop bulldozer in the chV when it comes out?!

thanks flank3r, you sure loving that chV huh? i like it but feel like chIV wasnt up to par for $250 board & dont want to feel the same way about chV so i was looking at the gigas and maybe go back to msi, my 790fx msi was fantastic for me.

I agree with you CrazyD. Seemed like Asus didn't really put too much effort into the C4F (bios wise), especially considering the high end nature.
That being said, Asus has always been pretty reliable. Gigabyte's been iffy, if you get a good model they rock,
but they've had a few real duds too that they just ignore and move on....

As for MSI, I was really looking forward to a high end "Big Bang" board.
Personally, I always thought their bios support was top notch, although the PWM sections were a little lacking at times (looks like they've fixed that).

If I needed an AM3+ board right now, I'd probably go for the C5F, the UEFI bios seems to be the most stable so far (and sweet!).
OTOH, the GBT UD7 is by far the most asthetically pleasing IMHO.

I'm just going to play with Llano for awhile and see where the AM3+ boards shake out...

I may be an MSI fanboy, but I'd really like to see them offer an awesome Big Bang board that looked as good as the UD7....

Dave, Flanker, Crazydiamond, common show my saber some love

I really, really like the Sabetooth board, favorite board so far and I have had a lot... I didn't see the CHV offerring enough to ask the $40 price premium. Either way, there looks to be some top notch boards from all sides and even in the lower price range, for AM3+.

CHV 10$ price premium over Sabertooth for me.
CHV 20$ price premium over Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5.
CHV 10$ less than Gigabyte GA-990FX-UD7.

Cheap boards when they cost from 150 to 180$

Yes, i get them tax free.

    C5F positives:
it is first board with good BD support
really no more LLC problems with voltage
    no FSB jumping
in loading no big jumps in voltages
    VRM OC setings
    nice UEFI
better for RAM OC than all others boards think

settings/proof? considering buying the board but uncertain, record your screen and upload a video or something showing cpuz voltage going from 0% to 100% load, then back to 0% again.

    Thanks Flank3r

Seriously, I think the CHV will be the best platform, but all the highend board from all sides look very promising. I haven't had the time yet to do a good review on the Sabertooth, and I haven't seen a much on the other boards yet to see how they will be overall.
