    New MSI GTX570 revision

Well it looks like MSI pulled an XFX and released a revised model of the GTX570 without updating the model number. I'm not sure if just MSI is going to be using this reference version but I kind of doubt it. I took a couple of pics of my card. I'm sure that we'll start to see more of these in the wild in the coming weeks. It looks to me like a GTX570 on a GTX470 pcb with a gtx470 cooler. This card is loud which is my only real gripe and its a big one.

Here is a quote from the latest MSI afterburner changelog.

Added core voltage control for alternate revision of reference design NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 series graphics cards

I wonder how loud it is compared to my EVGA GTX570. I updated the cards bios and now the fan can run at a full 100%... and boy is it loud.

Its no comparison, this cooler is much louder than the original reference model. Look at the smaller fan. I have yet to run into a situation where I needed 100% fan speed on my older card.

For sure, I updated the op with some better shots of the backside of the pcb. If thats not a GTX470 pcb I don't know what is.

We can say that it is a reference 470 pcb for sure...but is the card cheaper at least?

Not really, if you don't count the MIR that was on the card I paid a bit more than I did for my current card.

    Is this a 2.5GB card?
Apparently there are new 570's, dubbed 570HD with 2.5GB and stronger VRM nearly out in the wild, apparently eVGA will be the first to have this and then a few other vendors will follow?

Nope, its just a GTX570 soldered onto a GTX470 pcb.

Hmm seems a bit of a drastic measure by MSI?
My guess is they were looking for a dirty quick "fix" for VRM realted issues? However the new(er) stock coolers on the 500 series cards are very quiet and cool. It makes no sense why MSI ditched a major selling feature?!

You can see by the backside of the pcb that it is the same four phase design as a GTX470. I sent the card back a few days ago.

    Its not a 470 with a BIOS flash/hax to make it appear as a 570? :P

Sounds like they're chewing through old stock lol

hhey bababooey- i got a GTX 570 sitting here with 4 tantalum caps for the GPu and 1 for the memory on the backside of the GPU, if we use that same theory to count teh phases on this card if you said the caps around the GPu area the ones slanted and the pair belong on teh back of the GPU like on the reference design then maybe you are right, but it seems wayyy different than the reference deigns.

4 phases is ok you know, the problem is using those inductors and the renesas FETs. They can make some very strong 4 phase VRMs, of course switching losses would be higher than using 6 phases with the same parts, but who knows with MSI, they make some pretty sweet VRMs for their OCed GPUs, i am guessing they did something to the VRM other than leave it be..

The pcb is literally exactly the same as a GTX470 and it appears like this was done as a cost cutting measure. I would be shocked to find out that pwms are any different than GTX470, I could be wrong.

No doubt, is a GTX470 with GF110 core, same cooler and same PCB. Bad move if all brands follow this way, they are loud as hell and hotter.
