    Cool Eizo introduces a 36.4” 4K2K Monitor

    Source: http://en.akihabaranews.com/
Here you are Eizo’s new stunning professional 36.4” monitor : the DuraVision FDH3601. With a 4K2K resolution (4,096×2,160), this monitor will be sold in Japan early September 2011 at a stunning 2.88 Million yen!!!! The DuraVision FDH3601 is an ultra durable screen that is certified to be your 24/7 during two years maximum without failing.
The DuraVision FDH3601 comes with two DVI-D ports and Two DisplayPort inputs and offers a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a 700cd/m2 brightness and a 8ms response time.
2.8 million Yen = $34,884. Quite expensive. Boasts an impressive pixel density and resolution, though.
I guess we'll see more of these get more affordable within the next 3-4 years.

It will be interesting to see what video cards support this and if it ever makes it into the main stream. IBM used to sell monitors with 3840x2400 since 2001 but that went nowhere.
    AMD Phenom II BE, ASUS Crosshair II formula, 8gb ddr2 800, 470 SLI, PC P&C 750, arcera RAID, 4x OCZ Vertex2, 2x samsung 7200 1tb, HT Omega Clario +

    Displayport 1.2 can go up to 4k @ 60Hz, but Amd is limited @ 50Hz (and HDMI 1.4 @ 24Hz).
    Perhaps Matrox?

    Not bad.
    Shame it's a half @ssed attempt though, not a full 4k res.
    But it's still very nice.

The 1080p 120hz monitors are still to few, and to expensive.
I'm betting it'll be some time before 4k is standered and affordable.
Probably a good 8-10 years before it even comes close to being affordable.
Perhaps 5 years before it becomes more widespread.
Just a wild off the top of my head guess, nothing more.

I believe this is the 2nd 4k mon i've seen so far.
    I can't remember what brand/model the 1st one I came across was...

Apple will catch on to this, call it a retina display, and make boatloads of cash

4k is out and about, there are a couple 56inch models out there but at the cost of 60 grand or so. And while a lot of them are not "full" some models have been out since 2001, it just hasn't caught on.

I think that, like with that IBM, it's a case of being able to drive it and what you'd use it for. For photo or video editing where you can get a 4k source it makes sense. But I'm not sure what else you can do with it.

ASUS was hawking 2160p not that long ago either http://www.tweaktown.com/news/12376/...60p/index.html

Would be cool to see in person though.

i like what dell did where its 24" monitor can run 2 individual displays within its monitor. take that same concept and just make a monitor thats 4x 1080p and sell it for about 3-5k$

You could open 4 web pages next to each other Eizo website --> bank account --> Eizo --> bank account

It has a dot pitch of ~0.20mm. Close viewing shouldn't be a problem. You just won't be able to see everything in a glance. I doubt this is suitable for color critical work however. You already can see a greater color and luminance drift across the screen going larger than their CG221 22" screen.

Perhaps you missed the parts "Eizo" and "professional"? This is strictly for pro AV/post houses, not for playing the latest CoD...

I actually find it reasonably priced for what it offers and being an Eizo product.

They announce this JUST after I buy another 30"!

At least I can't afford it, so I don't feel so bad.

LOL@ the apple comment. I should save that quote for when apple pulls this BS about "retina desktop" displays. Mark my words, you're right.

So I guess I'll hold onto my 2 30" monitors until this gets cheap and put the big one in the middle.
    You must [not] advance.

Pro monitors never get "cheap" even when they're several years old.

I'll say it again: this kind of stuff are not for home-users, even for the the most extreme videophile with literally millions to spend on a HT room.

I really want to see a 24inch 2500X1600 monitor (IPS like dell hp nec of that grade). I think cards are getting to a point where they can handle 2500X1600 (even one a reasonable budget 580/480).

I love how mad DPI makes details in games look nicer. If I can find a JW900 round here should get my dpi fix =)

If they have millions to spend on a room, whats $35,000 going to matter?

I want to try one of those Phillips 2560x1080 displays.

Hi can someone enlighten me as to what application demands this sort of requirements or would benefit greatly enough to justify this investment.

Because there are solutions ten times better for one tenth of that price for non-pro home use. It's like buying a 10lbs $5k Panasonic Toughbook for an office notebook. One can do it but it's kind of retarded...

Broadcasting, post-production, editing masters... the list can go on. Basically professional video work that demands absolute precision and no down-time.

Well, you can do that but I suspect that's not main point of it.

Cool. We can make a wall of 30"s on that price. Just a fact, not saying it's too expensive

Still 30" is FTW, optimal for demanding ppl, not too big and not too tiny pixel pitch. I found U2711 uncomfortable after 3008WFP.

Keep in mind that Eizo is generally very expensive. LG could very well be a few times cheaper.
And once similar panels go into mass production in a few years...
