Something happened. 5870 cards on ebay.

Last week I poked around on ebay and found a very limited number of 5870 cards. Just checked now and there are dozens of them listed.

Is the sudden liquidation due to difficulty increases or are people spooked because of the mtgox hacks?

Combination of both, IMO. People are trying to cash out of the hardware investment early, while there's still a market for these cards. Can't say I blame them with the madness that's been going on. Don't think right now is the best time, personally... I'd want to see a correction before making my decision, instead of dumping now with little to no information.

I'm actually hoping maybe with the sudden semi-panic and flood of cards that maybe I could snag one for dirt

Doesn't look that way. They're still selling at retail prices for USED cards. Might as well just go new and have peace of mind. You are going to be pushing it, after all.

gotta love panic.... for me I never invested in any new cards so if the market crashed today I would be no less behind then before. also the more people who sell off now with the panic, the less people mining and the higher the value for BTC. so if anything its a good thing for us.

Hmm, I hadn't seen many for reasonable prices, but haven't looked in the last week or two.
What are you guys thinking is "reasonable"? I'd consider that ~200 US. I'm afraid all this bitcoin craze is going to make it hard for me to build my Crossfire-Eyefininty setup for Battlefield 3!

200$ for 5870? They are 290$+ in my country... Consider few times lower salaries...

    Nice.
I'm in a bit of a technological backwoods, never anything good like that here locally!
I am noticing better deals on cards on the bitcoin forums. It looks like the big cash grab is over and miners are starting to run scared.

Eyefinity isn't too good as a crunching card. You need to buy an MDP to VGA adapter in order to make a dummy plug, unless I'm missing something.

No dummy plugs required in Linux. If you're building a dedicated miner Linux is really the only option.

I hear ya, man. Not a day goes by without me kicking myself for not knowing enough linux. I got into Gentoo a little recently, but not enough to comfortably crunch on. /shame

I would have to look again; I've seen 5830's new for $130, 5850's under $200; and 5870's around the $200-250 figure. But some are still rediculous. Just have to keep your eye out cause the cheaper ones go really quick. This just started this week being more reasonable

I still see 5850's for 130 NIB at loacal retailers... (after MIR but still)

bitcoins are for sure the reason why the price of cypress went way back up. not too long ago 200 bucks was the going price for a 5870...
