Wink First time "xtreme" touch with LN2

Finally, many years with aircooling and benching with air coolers I organized in CZ "1st FlanK3rs OC party". It was last week (10.-12.6.) at nice cottage.
    S6303435.jpg

Without practice experience, with some beers, some hardware and with several people party begun . With LN2 benchmarked only 3 from us.

    S6303362.jpg
    S6303365.jpg

Friend Froxic in action . For him too first experience with LN2
    S6303369.jpg

    We had M4A89GT PRO, Crosshair IV Formula, Crosshair IV Extreme (me), Rampage III Extreme (me), M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, HD4870, borrowed GTX580 Matrix , HD6850, GTX480. CPU from my side i7 980x, x6 1100T BE, x4 975 BE, x4 965 BE (old one). There was x2 555 BE, x4 955, i7 920, next x6 1100T and x6 1075T too.

First POT in action - lol, icy at board, first mistake...But this time we dont know it yet...
    S6303390.jpg

    Froxic prepared Rampage III Extreme
    S6303397.jpg

C4F and my R3E after very bad benching
    S6303401.jpgS6303408.jpg

    My C4E preparing
    S6303417.jpg

some bluescreen and nice POT ice +next upgrades around POT
    S6303421.jpgS6303429.jpg

Now back to mistakes....At Gulftown system and x4 975 BE system we had very bad contact between CPU and POT, because in rubber insulation I made too small hole.. Intel was overheating under LN2,, shutdown again and again. At x4 975 BE I had only about -50C. Later cames next problems with wet, CPU LED "red" and drying not helped me (after removing drying helped not!). I was frustrate, tried some hours everything....next day I put C4E and R3E and myself outside at sun and later tried it again. Whau, CPUs and boards are OK. After this experience we know more. Now we had "perfect" isolating and with x6 1100T improve results. On the other hand, quantitiy of LN2 was less and less and we had no time for better results in superpi 1M/32M etc. Max two two tests for every bench now ...Now some screens from results.

    x4 965 BE (old one from 2009)
    x4 965BE 6520 MHz.PNG

x4 975 BE (I think, it can reach above 7 GHz, this was with -50 C, bad contact)

    superpi 1M

    x6 1100T BE
    6738 MHz

    superpi 1M

    wprime 32M and 1024M

    Cinebench R10

In next 14 days Il retesting x4 975 BE...But LN2, friends, frisco and old nasty cat from cottage was fun .

yes, cottage was cool, but inside moderny equipped. With more LN2 could be later better, 1100T validation was very good, for superpi etc we had only few try

    Very nice cottage FlanK3r !
Looks beautiful out there in the country.
Do you live at that place or just vacation there ?

My first runs under LN2 were not exciting in that my OC's were not all that great. I used equipment that was no matter if I killed it, which I did kill the motherboard in the end. No loss but I learned a lot on how all this works. Every place is different as far as condensation is concerned. Out in the central valley of California I get very little condensation, but people down in the gulf coast states get a lot from what I hear.

I have made the mistake of putting to much eraser around the CPU many times. Its best to pull off the pot after the first mounting to check it all out before you go cold, it's much easyer to deal with them vs after it gets frozen.

Very nice work tho, you guys did great !!!

Looks like you finally got some results after having issues. Good work on that. Insulation techniques are... odd. I'll just leave it at that.

    FlanK3r you did it.
I’m glad you finally got to do some extreme cold testing. It’s a much different way of benching isn’t it? I think you did good job.

Good Luck with the next tests.

Main diference is, here has not much time as with aircooling. Maybe it is about more experinece and skill. First insulation benchmark configuration was the worst and after next others it was better and better. Second is to hard estimate what the chip could get...Example, we had not much LN2 and every failure is not good for new setings, next booting and mainly for more LN2 from amount LN2. We was in superpi 1M conservative at NB clocks.

But it was fun and Im looking forward for next action

Oh yes. I knew I forgot something in my first response. This is probably more towards, SF3D, but is the top hold down of your Inflection pot metal? Needs moar composite materials. Will help stop most if not all of the icing at the top of the pot. IMO, running without that ice could potentially allow much longer sessions.

5 boys in the sauna? lol

just wrap the pot with paper towels and rubber bands...and put a fan to blow the frosty air away from the board...the pot is super good against any load.

This is no issue. Like honda explained in his post, you will just need few layers of paper and fan. We have done many 6h+ sessions with these pots and no issues.
This can not break and it will not raise the cost of the product
