    990FX: HT 3.0, 3.1 and Bulldozer

    Evening.

I've noticed there's been some mention of HT 3.0 and 3.1. I thought HT3.1 was the new standard for 990FX and Bulldozer. I've noticed that a lot of the 990FX are labelled as HT3.0 specifically the Gigabytes, and the Crosshair V. In Hardware Canucks Sabertooth review Sky mentions it being HT3.1 but that's the only review I've seen and some of the boards have HT 3.0 silkscreened to the PCB.

Are all 990FX HT 3.1, is HT 3.1 still a necessity for 990FX/Bulldozer?

I'm confused. Also, the new forum layout is ugly, but I do like the autosave feature.

    Hi TBC, lunchtime here. :P

From what I understand it is chip dependent. PII's are HT3.0 and BD HT3.1 so the bios should default to either spec depending on what you've installed.

I also believe 900 series is needed for HT 3.1 on BD. This was mentioned a while ago. I am curious to see the difference once I get BD.

What I'm interested in though is the actual boards. I've not seen HT3.1 as a feature on any boards. The pics of the Giga boards I've seen have HT3.0 silkscreened on them, and I believe the Crosshair V does as well. Do these boards support HT 3.1?

ht 3.0 and 3.1 are the same in hardware they are only different in the clock rates, 3.0 is 2ghz and 3.1 is 3.2-3.6ghz.

and the features of the 890fx and 990fx are the same with the same pin layout so its been speculated that they are the same or the 990fx is just a revised 890fx and not a new chipset.

Actually, 3.0 is 2600mhz. AMD just never used its full speed. I'll find out what BD uses on my Saber board as son as it comes out ~

    Simple answer:
    Doesn't matter
HT Clock is not a bottleneck, even at the stock 2000 Mhz...

And unless you are going to play hardball with the ROG Expander and Quad SLI / 4 way Xfire you wont have much trouble getting up in 3000 range with even current 890 boards.
    Smile
