Cooler Master Hyper TX3 on AM3 questions

Thinking of getting one of these for an AM3 motherboard (Biostar TA785G3)

After looking around it seems like for AM3 socket the fan on this cooler either points up or down rather than into the rear case fan. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

As an illustration, this is how I want it installed (this is in an Intel socket):

I oqwn both (hd version of that board) and am3 works fine. The heatsink mounts in the same direction too.

Am I the only person who is completely not sold on the usefulness of heat pipes? Reminds me of memory heatsinks that actually increase temps.

Oddly, I now want to keep mine, even though I have no use for the tiny thing.
