Corsair H50 $40 at best buy

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+...&skuId=9503771

The last thread I made was about the A50 and A70. This is actually the H50 this time.

    $40 seems smoking hot. YMMV

I wonder how well (or poorly) that cooler would handle my 2600K at 5GHz... I'm interested but I'd much prefer an H70.

    Wrong! $43.34

I hot footed it down to my nearest Best Buy and walked out the door with a H50 for $43.34. The receipt says it is was $69.99.

I've been thinking about buying the H70 but this is too good a bargain to pass up.

PS: It's not going to replace that GTZ, etc. in my sig!

I already have one on my 2600K. 5 GHz is doable with a strong enough fan and low ambients.
Under load it will still go over 80C. So it's benchable, but I wouldn't recommend it for 24/7.

Ok so it's a no-go then. My Hyper 212+ can do 5GHz (very briefly) and that's at high ambient. Still, I have other machines...

I'll think on it and order (or not) in an hour.

It could also be my chip... I needed 1.48 (load vcore) to get 5 GHz LinX (with AVX) stable...

I've only gone to 1.44v but Giga's BIOS reads 1.38v max (regardless of what I set it at). It's odd in that way. I'd really like a new BIOS that solves some of these Z68X issues. I should probably wait for better weather (or air conditioning) though I think I'll be stuck like this for the rest of summer.

careful, I hear the pump-sink likes to die on them.

It's supposed to be extremely rare - probably designed that way since a failed motor will definitely burn the CPU. Same with leaks - but even more rare.
But yes, both the fan and the pump are single points of failure. So I set my machine to (force) shutdown if the CPU goes over 85C for more than a minute.

Thanks broham, I needed a new cooler to OC in the hope to extend the life of my Q6600. It was earlyer than I was expecting to buy something but I couldn't pass this deal up

And while I was there I picked up a Logitech G35 for $40 off list price

FWIW, I haven't had any problems with mine in... maybe 2 years. It's not an amazing cooler for an i7 by any means (although I'm ashamed to admit I haven't even tried re-seating on the CPU!) but it's neat to have. I'd like the bigger one!

How long is this going for?
    Anyone know?

The thread was made on the 29th, it's the 31st and the website still has the sale price.
It's not the weekend so I have no idea when the sale ends.

I WILL buy this if it's still on sale the 3rd .
My luck though it won't be.
It would be awkward and difficult to get the money before the 3rd , might not even be possible for me.

If you have a picture of the in store price or it's in an add I can't imagine they won't.

They guarantee to match any store regardless of online or brick and mortar.

$50, is still better then $70-80.

I sure hope they are really comparable to the ultra-120's like people say they are...

The db says it's still around locally here.
    I'll be getting one tomorrow.
Along, hopefully, with a netgear router, supports dd-wrt flashing.
Pretty sick of passing the modem back and forth every day...

I'll be happy as long as this heatsink kicks the living crude out of the stock heatsink...
The stock cooling just does not cut it unless you have air conditioning on 24/7.

I just got one, cost $50, plus taxes or whatever.
I'm gonna leave it testing for an hour starting in a min here.

The bestbuy that was closest to me was the only one I know of in MI that still has them in stock...
    I lucked out.
