[Fudzilla]Ivy Bridge to launch in March / April 2012

    Intel slows down

We told you quite a lot of details about Intel's 22nm Ivy Bridge CPU and its platform, but now we got a good indication that the launch is scheduled for the March to April 2012 timeframe.

Intel has talked to its partners and revealed that Ivy Bridge launch is slated for Q2 2012, not Q1 as they traditionally did in the past. This means that in the last few years Intel has slowed down its new generation tick - tock strategy by two quarters, or half a year.

Hmm quite a slow down in tick/tock indeed.
Maybe I'll be able to catch up this time

Going to from 32nm to tri-gate 22nm is like two die shrinks. I don't think they are slowing down

Just wait for the 11nm shrink, things really are tough there, then to me all bets are off for anything lower than 11nm.

Absolutely, but 2015 or so we'll be in the nanoelectronic age.

the slow down is for the release time, launching it in Q2 and not Q1 ... but as the new 3d gate involved in the production is a bit different of what have been used before, i will not say as Fudzilla Intel have decided to slow down the Tick/tock... itīs just in this case .

Let's all all hope for Bulldozer delivering. (Intel fans included) I want to see this pushed to Q4 2011.

putting out ivy bridge is driven by economics but not competition

Its slower...because first date for Clarkdale (first 32nm) was beginn of Q4 2009, but launch was later in Q1 2010, Westmere at end of Q1. And now again scheduled :-)....

im going to take this with a grain of salt. everywhere else says q1 2012 and if i was going to trust one place on info out of the many it certainly wouldnt be fudzilla.

i really do hope this isnt true because i was going to build my new gaming rig around ivy bridge for battlefield 3 (running a core 2 duo right now) i could easily wait til january maybe february but march/april is way too long.

intel must not be scared of bulldozer at all then if this is true

nope, still one die shrink. they would not all the adopt use multigate transistors because it is faster. they used it because it was necessary to continue moore's law.

it is a misconception to think that smaller=faster. at this scale, non-ideal effects from shrinking can easily use more power than what is lost from making the circuits smaller. that's why you have not seen a new node with out some kind of enhancement. i.e. strained Si, double patterning, immersion litho, hkmg, etc.

Tis a good thing imo, would hate to get a new chipset/pinset every 12-18 months.

Bulldozer feels like the new Duke Nukem Forever.

This is totally being blown out of proportion..So many people on these boards were expecting to buy retail ivy chips in 2011? I really don't know why..SB less than a 12 month shelf-life? yea right, keep dreaming...Sandy Bridge Launched in Jan'11. All cadences have had at least 1 year (or more) before the next tick/tock.

So instead of ivy bridges at the end of jan'12, we're getting them 120-180 days later...Its a die shrink plus new tech w/ 3D tri-gates..

    Yea..dang Intel..stop slowing down. Sheesh!

The hexa core Sandy bridge E will be announced in 2011 Q4, if Ivy bridge put in Q1, don't know whether it may cause any unnecessary conflict IMO.

The point was BECAUSE duke nukem has gone gold, it left a hole... which bulldozer feels like it's filling.

I want bulldozer. But I wanted it several months ago.

AMD should partner up with 2K Games and bundle Orochi FX Black Edition CPUs with copies of Duke Nukem Forever for $15 more when the CPU gets released.

I'm eager for Ivy Bridge, tri-gate transistors sounds interesting.

It would be a soft launch.
