The Warranty being voided if you open or modify a product or run it out of spec is the norm, sure there are some companies who make exceptions, or don't enforce the rules to the letter, but those are expections.

Biggest issue I see is that with selling different tops they are essentially encouraging you to void the warranty, but then of course the same could be said about every mainboard manufacturer out there, they add tons of bios options and advertise with OC capabilities, yet you void the warranty of your CPU and so on if you run it at anything except stock settings...

But the MB maker doesn't make the chip also, that's the difference here.

C'mon, you got to pay to play. Open pump, modify pump no warranty, so what? You think if you mod anything under warranty and it breaks you are still entitled? I highly disagree with you here. What are we talking about anyway, $75? Name: facepalm.gif

I believe it was airspirit who (with the help of Bill and others) came up with this concoction.

The warranty-void policy has been lifted for water-block housing upgrades (i.e. apogee xt rev2, mcw82). Relevant language has been removed from product pages.

There is no status update with regards to pumps at this time. I am travelling atm and will not be available for comments for next 2 weeks, unless break in schedule.

Thank you Gabe. Hopefully we will see something similar with pumps and upgrading to a Swiftech add-on. I understand about other after market tops, but if it's a Swiftech top added to a Swiftech pump I would think that the warranty would stay in place except for the guarantee against leaking obviously.

I'll add my +1 to this. Warranty against leaking is one thing, but this goes a LONG way towards fixing what we see as an issue.

I wanted to mark this also. I lost my first water cool set up messing around with Swiftech stuff. My 355 went south in 4 months, only mod I did was a res top. It didn't leak, it smelled burned. You all know what electronic burn smells like. I was dry as a stone in the Sahara, only damage was the motor was burned out.

Swiftech helped me by selling me a 355. Since it was the same shape and place my old pump was, I bought it, if I had of known that doing something as common as putting a res top on was going to void me, I would have went with Koolance.

My .02... modding the water blocks shouldnt be an issue, but modding the pump.. leave it be. If you mod the pump which is basically the heart of the WC system, then you void the warranty.

Its the same as sleeving a PSU, if you open the casing, the manufacturer cant tell what else you did in there because they dont document each and every piece that leaves the factory, so they have to take the customers word, and thats why the warranty language is there, to protect them from liars and cheats, and the honest people have to deal with it too.

I dont have issues with whether or not im voiding a warranty, because i usually make a change thats for the better (better cooling, better wiring etc etc etc) and i know that my mods themselves wont break the piece im working on. I also know that if i f it up, that its MY booty thats responsible and i wont go crying to the manufacturer for replacement.

Let me guess, XSPC res top? If so, that's what killed your pump.

I still don't get why it's so hard to understand that swapping tops is modding the pump to run out of spec. The fact that Koolance covers such behavior will eventually start costing them like it did Swiftech and they'll change their policy as well in the not to distant future. A company can lose only so much money before they see the error in their ways.

I have run a couple stock top setups in the past but every current DDC I have has a after market top on it ATM...and I don't have room in my builds for 1/2" I.D. tubing.
