Read on amazon reviews that this board requires the cpu fan to be plugged in, in order to boot into windows. Can anyone confirm this?

Just as the p67 boards from asus, I think all of them ask you to plug a fan or at least they warn you about the fan dedicated for the cpu.
And yes if the board doesn't detect an fan on the cpu connector which is dedicated to it, the board will not let you boot.
BUT you can get into the bios and set up IGNORE in all the options related to fans and it will let you boot then.
So there is no need to have a fan plugged.

I've been having the problem without a fan being plugged into the cpu fan header on the motherboard and the board not booting when I have cpu fan set to ignore in the bios....

Anyone know what the range for default CPU PLL voltages is? My comes out to 1.79v which seems a little high, but I don't have any other CPU's to compare it to. This is with a 2600K on a P8Z68-V Pro MB. Thanks

1.80 VPLL is default for this architecture. So nothing to worry about.

Why is the max IO voltage on the maximus 4 gene-z only 1.3V?

With turbo-V I can go higher, but does it really do?

Are there any new/beta biosses out for the M4G-Z?

    tnx

yes, check out Andre's 3dm01 thread in the 3d team section.

the 2nd release fixes a time issue, however there are a few minor bugs left in the bios.

tnx man will try that bios

current bios @109.8 blck , want to reach 110 but it isn't stable yet

mem tweak it is also working, but need to start the prog. with administrator rights, otherwise it results in bsod after changing settings.

I am testing Maxmimus IV Gene-Z - there is a major failure/glitch in the Bios Setup Menu.

IT GOT NO SEPERATE SETTING FOR VCCSA AND VCCIO - I HAVE TO SET VCCSA OVER INTEL SPECS TO RUN IT WTF.

Please fix this ASAP - or i got to return the board to the dealer.

Latest AI Suite II won't install & AIDA64 crashes the system when it tries to read the sensors of the board.

(Most likely not AIDA64 fault since it worked perfect on the P8P67 Pro)

    Source: http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...e-Overclocking

VCCIO Voltage: Sets termination and/or rail voltages for various transceiver stages of the processor. The base setting is 1.05V, and some processors need little adjustment from this value even when overclocking 4GB density memory modules. Processors with weaker memory controllers may require a higher setting (up to 1.20V) to facilitate overclocking. As a general rule, increase or reduce in small steps (0.025V) and check for stability before changing the voltage, as a voltage level that is too high can also induce instability.

Note that System Agent voltage (VCCSA) is tied to VCCIO on our Z68 boards. SA voltage seldom needs adjustment and tying it to VCCIO seems to cause no discernible adverse effects for overclocking in our testing to date. From a purist standpoint however, my personal preference is to opt for P67 instead of the Z68 motherboards for extreme overclocking if the iGPU is not to be used.

I got a Maximus IV Gene-Z Mobo today. Installed CPU, Heat Sink, RAM, PSU, and nothing else. But the mobo wont post. It turns On for 1 sec, then turns Off for 1sec. It will cycle like this none stop till i turn off the PSU.

I tried Clearing CMOS and i tried different RAM and RAM slots, still same issue.I tried Go-Button, and the Mem-OK light is blinking like it should.

Any ideas what can i do before i send this mobo back??

    Thanks in advance.

    Parts;
    PSU -Seasonic 760W
    CPU- 2500K
    Mem - Corsair Dominator 2x 4GB 1600

    P.S.

Only CPU LED turns ON and then OFF, and HDD CPU turns ON and OFF as the board power cycles.

I also tried different PSU as well, still no go.

Sounds like a bad mobo, particularly the power area. Try it without the 12V rail plugged-in and see if it will remain ON. If it does, and it only Power OFF when the 12V rail is plugged-in, definitely a power section failure.

Do you mean with out the "CPU" 8pin power connector?? I just tried it, and mobo does not stay ON, it keeps power cycling.

I requested RMA number from the vendor, so its going back.

    Thanks again.

it sounds like theres no bios rom, check to see the 8 legged rom chip is seated firmly beside the red sata port and in the right direction.

Is the Intel ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards required on Windows 7 to get rid of the PCI Simple Communication Controller in device manager on Windows 7 Pro 64?

Has anyone come up with an order and what files need to be installed after the OS install? Such as (below) and are all of these needed? Thanks!

The ROM Chip is present. I took it out and put it back in, still same issue. I removed the chip again and installed it upside down, and still no go.

Which Asus Z68 motherboard do you have? I have the P8z8-V Pro, which has Bluetooth. It required installation of the Bluetooth driver to remove unknown items from the device manager.

I've got a P8Z68-V with a WD Black 1.5 TB drive hooked to the SATA 6 port. Processor is a I7-2600K. The Windows 7 x64 disk test is coming back with a 5.9 benchmark score is seems very low. Any ideas?
Also, AIDA64 CPU/Memory test is showing a memory speed of 48ns (Curcial 2x4GB Vengence) and the L3 cache speed is very high also.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
