Dunno how much the retention module affects the temps, but dropping 5°C sounds like BS to me.

Given that the old module isn't much wider than the stock HS, I really can't see how it could block the airflow that much. Most people here will remove it anyway.

As much as I want to go back to AMD, if nobody releases a mITX board I'm going to have to stick with the blue team

True, but the last case I had that included a speaker was about 8-10 years ago. Perhaps I'll wire together a speaker and connect it to the motherboard. I can do that right after I do all of the wire management and put all things into their permanent locations in the case.

Actually I was looking to be lazy.

If I get a new hardware RAID card (Areca or LSI) that includes one of those onboard. Then I don't have the nasty tedious task of plugging one of those in. SO I'd be saving the extra effort needed.

They are refering to stock H/S and Fan setups. The heat is blown straight down and doesn't escape as freely on the current setup.

I tend to buy new hardware really early, and motherboards/CPU's are my main weakness.
Anyone else having a hard time deciding between this new gear?

FWIW, Here's my thoughts on them....

I'm leaning heavily toward the MSI BigBang (or whatever they're going to call it). I still think MSI has the best BIOS support in the industry.
My only concern is the power section. It looks like they've done quite a bit of work on it with the new boards (8+2 is a huge step up),
but it's been a weak spot for them in the past, and I'm not completly sold on the "Military Class" hype.

Then there's the Asus CH5 (or Sabertooth).
I have a C4F and I love it! In fact I'd be willing to argue that it's the best AM3 boards on the market.
I haven't been really happy with their bios support though....
Although you can work around it I still feel the HTRef and Voltage float is costing me some amount of performance.

I've had good luck with BioStar boards. They always seem to offer a nice product with good OC headroom at a decent price,
but they usually don't have enough flash or bells and whistles to satisfy the geek in me (sad I know ).

I'm sure I should just go for a BD on my C4F and see where the Mobo thing shakes out, but I'm not sure I'll have the will power.....

This, except mATX for me (with SLI support @x16 for both cards)... and I have never used AMD...

    Me too.
That pic I posted is very exaggerated, as if all heat got trapped in the heatsink just because of a 5 mm high frame.
Sure, it makes a difference, and it's probably a good thing that they removed it, but I doubt it makes a 5° difference.

I think this will be my next mobo coming off CH IV F.
I loved my 790FX-DQ6 mobo. Not perfect but very stable, I hope this one keeps stability but brings more BIOS tweaking options.

In all seriousness, that does look nice.

That leaves Biostar with no pics of their 9xx boards yet.

it would be nice to see a rumor or a mention of other form factors. I know it wont get as much love as mATX but after going mITX for my current system, I refuse to back to big!
