    Red face "watt" Questions

Can someone explain me all this watt issue

1: i do i know how much watt of heat my cpu is making on each tweak ?
2: i do i know how much watt my SS is capable of handling ?

    thanks

#1: No way to know for sure that I know of.
#2: You need a load tester to set disired heat load and tune from that. Most are using 300watt loads for this now.
But for SB like CPU's you might be better off tuning for 270watts and then tuning for colder temps.

Sure you can. You need a AC line wattage tester. Measure idle system load. Load CPU. Measure loaded system wattage. Now you know the increase over idle. Subsuquent mods will tell u difference from idle. That at least gets u to watt value.

As a rule of thumb, I use CPU idle load w/cool&quiet on of ~20W. Totally un-scientific for 4core AMD cpu, so maybe 25-30W for a Thubian.

Is your AC line wattage tester like a Kill-O-Watt meter ?

That messures the total system power usage which is not the same as what your CPU only is putting out heat wise.

Something like this will be as close as you can get to actual CPU power usage that I know of. I am sure there are other ways and more professional equipment, I just don't know of any.

Ihave not tried this either, tho it looks interesting and maybe worth looking into.

No way, that tester is even better, it measures the power to the CPU. I was talking about using a unit like that on the AC into the system power supply.

Power to CPU is not heat to be dissipated though. The MOSFET's aren't 100% efficient, and as listed on the device, newer CPU's also pull power from elsewhere.
I still believe in the load tester.

True, but that device gets u to a point were theres a % too use for calculation. While wattage doesn't mean heat produced directly, at least theres a % change from the prior settings. That may be enough.
