google is just being a big fat greed ball that it has grown into.

I have read what you have written. Your assertion that Google is turning into a greedy corporation is against the curve. The curve I speak of is the view of reality holding some companies as "evil," that is selfish and greedy and other corporations as "good," selling a quality product at lower margins for the benefit if the common man.

Consider AMD, a microprocessor company who sells high performance cpus at a very marginal cost. Now, while processors sold by AMD are comparatively slow to AMD's rival in the microprocessor business, Intel, the chips are still very fast. Even more than this, AMD is seen as the "good underdog" corporation fighting against the "evil galactic empire" of Intel to sell microprocessors at a low price. The image of the do-gooder, the notion of a large conglomerate fighting on behalf of the little guy is obviously a romantic image, keenly serving business interests. Likewise, Google is seen as "fighting for the little guy" against Microsoft thus upholding mystique of "good guy."

bashing the competition who is clearly superior and more experienced is a good start for the underdog??

googles growth over the past decade is very very amazing. but this is leading them to do dumb stuff like this.

im all for competition but bashing ur competition is just pathetic. good example those mac vs pc ads. terrible

Clearly superior and experienced? As if that mattered...
Remember Pentium 4? That piece of crud sold by the millions. Why? Because Pentium 4 was the highest performing processor on the market?

What sold better: PlayStation 1 or Nintendo 64 and for what reasons?
Why do you think the American people were so easily sold on the idea of protracted war in the Middle East with out bearing in mind the horrible consequences of war?
Why do you think Star Wars does so well? Gifted writing and acting?
Why do they shoot 9-ball classic for television?

    Checkers sells better then chess.

    you're comparing apples with oranges.

compare windows 7 linux and osx. which is clearly the most user friendly one that most applications will work on?

    Do you really believe that..?

I believe YOU tend to ramanticize good & evil... & corporations. But the simple fact is, either a product has value, or less value. Depending on the criteria and/or the knowledge of the buyer.

Cloud computing will greatly revolutionize office space. Where office buildings & IT departments can roll out terminals at each desk and build upon intra-net cloud computing.. etc.

You are missing the point entirely.

    It is presentation.
    Appearances.
    In other words, AESTHETICS.

What prompted AMD to change the logo? Love?
OSX and Win7, two OSes by two separate corporations whose products fundamentally perform the same thing.

Which will sell better and why?
    Image and presentation.

    Communism vs. capitalism.
What, do you think members of a Communist society congregate in exclusive locales to discuss Karl Marx and Lenin? They discuss balance sheets and futures exchange.

Look at former president George Bush of the United States. Following 9/11, what consumed most of his time? Bolstering his sagging image as the heroic do-gooder out to save the world.

    Exactly.
Would Linux have anything close to the appeal it now enjoys with out the approachable penguin logo?

Indeed it does relate to aesthetics and presentation.

    Google bashes Microsoft.
Why would Google bash Microsoft? Who is the message intended for? Who is the audience? What is Google's purpose?

These are just a few of the questions you should be asking yourself, by the way.

Study the ad campaigns of video game corporations Nintendo and Sega during the early 90's and you might just learn something about effective public presentation. Both consoles, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis fundamentally did the same thing: kill boredom. The question is how best to differentiate product A from product B. Not much is accomplished by sitting quietly in corner office in a tall building with some pencil necked geek filling out a report. Have to get moving, get noticed, find new ways of invigorating the target audience.

You seem to exist soley wiithin marketing, not in reality.

PEOPLE want familiarity & ease. Google is not bashing microsoft, they are bashing Windows need for end-user involvement in maintaining itself.

Sure, because companies are all that happy to let Google read all their internal communications.

Google is right though, windows is torture.
It's dumbed down but that's ok.

    Windows = Kinky torture.
    Chrome = Over simplistic/spyware hellfire.
